Alot bigger up close from the other photos it looked small.

CAC is also building a smaller variant of the J-20 to compete with the J-21, and Shenyang Aircraft Corporation is also building a second medium fighter to complement the Chengdu J-20.

I've heard of a single engine J-20, could this be the same ?

The closeup reveals that the flaps are still missing. Perhaps they are being transported separately just like the vertical and horizontal stabilizers?

the air craft is tilted ....no one would be transporting it like that....unless it is one of the ones that crashed and is being shifted....covered to prevent people from knowing.......

The aircraft is tilted because that way its wingspan is reduced and it can fit in a motorway safely.

I don't think it has crashed or anything. I think it might be a legitimate prototype.

The canopy is also missing ofcourse. perhaps it is not even at flying stage so the cockpit may not yet be outfitted.

It is also missing the stabilizers and possibly the engines. I personally believe that this is more of a static testing model since the truck carrying it was going to Yanliang, where such tests are normally performed.

The legitimate flight capable prototype will supposedly fly in August. Whether the first flight will coincide with August 1st is any one's guess.

Hey this F-35 must've crashed too... They are covering it up so no one would know and the darn Aussies from Air power Australia won't blabber about it:

I am beginning to think that this Aircraft would be a Multirole fighter , maybe along the same size as the F/A 18 Super hornet.

Moving parts are usually removed for transport, especially ground. Even if a moving part like an aileron is mechanically 'locked' in place, the risk of damage during transport is still too great, financially or otherwise, to bear at destination. Besides, hydraulically activated parts often 'droop' in the absence of hydraulic pressure -- by their own weight, all the more reasons to take them off the aircraft and install them at destination. Stabilators -- take them all off if possible. Same for assorted protrusions like antennas and air data probes. Maintenance time to install them is far far far cheaper than manufacture new ones.

Likely date of first flight was given September 2012, seems to be on track so far, but this appears to be quite similar to the mockup on Huitong's page so i would assume it is J-21, a Shangyang project to complement the Chengdu J-20, what is also being manufactured at Chengdu is a single engine stealth fighter following the F-35 philosophy, might or might not be inducted by PLAAF but aimed at export. This is truly amazing pace of advanced stealth technology development by China! Amazing how a promising, rising economy can benefit a country. :)

The J-20 picture on Huitong's page is the exact same wrapped plane as this one.

If only our economy was in a better shape and if wishes were horses, i would love to see PAF becoming partner in one of these projects. Imagine the technical know how the PAF engineers would get just by associating themselves with a project like this even if we don't have much of our own to contribute.

Forget the J-10, PAF should start focusing on this bird. F-16 and JF-17 are sufficient till then. We don't need another platform that adds little to nothing to the existing capabilities of PAF..

I don't see how economy will be an issue. I think a lot of Pakistanis engineers are already working at Chengdu anyways on the JF-17 related developments. Don't see anything wrong with sending more to Shenyang, with the possible issue of longer flight time.
