When people know the capabilities of your military, the enemies are less likely to get into a war. That's a deterrent.

This parade is not to show the military power of China, its to celebrate the sacrifices in WW2.

China is not even showing its latest ICBM.

If China really wanted to show its full military capabilities, China can do an annual military parade just to show off its capabilities and it will show its best weapons.
