Uzbekistan expels 8 US 'missionaries'

West has always supported these missionaries from day first. As their faith is weaknening even at their own home countries they have & are trying to 'influence/ coerce/ offer money/ guise themselves as humanitarians' to 3rd world countries poors/ uneducated/ simple folks. They can & are disguising themselves in any form. I have seen numerous faces of such missionaries and am astonished that how cleverly they continue to play their games & world is quiet. Sometime back their were news that they were even making efforts in Turkey with the help of western agencies to induce/ incite young turks. Such pathetic & low efforts/ evil means can only be expected from such pitiful followers who take the support of worldly items as their own faith itself is weak and does not offer the true light as it should.

Thanks

do Islamic countries send Tableeghy types to foreign/western countries?

Yes, there are many Muslim organizations in the USA that are more than happy to teach and/or encourage conversion to Islam.

World Islamic Mission:
Its aim is to spread the true teachings of Islam in the light of Hadiths and Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad. In this regard it is active in at least 24 countries around the world. It aims to promote Islamic knowledge, enhance social development, spread the message of Islam, and inculcate sincere love and respect for Prophet Muhammad.

Should we expel them? They don't look like us, they believe in different stuff, they act kind of weird. Our culture must not be sullied by such as these.

oh common Chogy, u cant compare Uzbekistan (one of the most closed societies, a total police state --with soviet mentality still lingering amongst their leaders) to the US.....

America has much greater religious freedom than any of those former soviet colonies.

Can't speak for other countries, but yes, American missionaries set up shop in the Ottoman Empire starting in the early 19th century, including in Anatolia itself. These were privately supported, non-government enterprises focused on converting Eastern Christians to the Protestant creed. They mostly failed at conversion but strongly succeeded at establishing new schools (admitting both Christians and Muslims) which eventually expanded to become the most highly-regarded universities in the Middle East.

There was nothing coercive or nefarious or pathetic about them - quite the opposite. You can ask the Muslim and Christian students at the American Universities of Cairo and Beirut, Robert College of Istanbul, etc. how much they appreciate the efforts of their schools' founders.

a lot of older generation Pakistanis who are well educated attended Christian missionary schools (e.g. the St. Mary schools network in Pakistan)...

even today they still exist --though they arent really ''missionary'' anymore. Those more affluent who can afford it still put their kids in these schools, since they are often ''feeder schools'' for universities in UK like Cambridge and elsewhere and there's a certain ''prestige'' behind that.

Uzbekistan has expelled eight American nationals from the Central Asian country on charges of making “unlawful” attempts to convert local Uzbeks to Christianity.

Under the guise of businessmen or English language teachers, the eight US nationals "carried out unlawful missionary activity to attract Uzbek students” to Christianity, AFP reported, citing a report on the state-run Uzbek website, gorizont.uz.

"Notably, the foreigners were fluent in Uzbek and called themselves with Uzbek names such as Jahongir, Husan, Jasur, Farhod," the report said.

The US Embassy in the Uzbek capital Tashkent declined to comment on the incident.

Uzbekistan previously deported another US citizen and seven South Koreans on similar charges.

All religious missionary work is banned in Uzbekistan, which is a predominantly Muslim nation with 90 percent of its 28 million citizens practicing the Islamic faith.

Yes! the CIA works under the disguise of missionaries around the world.....:what:
thats good they kicked them out...........Alhamdolillah!........:)

Dear Abou,

In Lahore we have a big missionary at misson road and in 80's there use to be many foreigners (white) on foot carrying sacks of missionary literature and distributing openly... at least no one ever missed me! ;)

In (missionary) school during break time one Suzuki van converted as shop use to be available for all school children, distributing missionary literature. I never missed any book from there as well.
 i failed them all.... but today i have no fear of being forced into some belief or religion.
Indeed God work in mysterious ways.

These days those on foot missionaries seemed to be evaporated but offices of 'salvation army' has increased a lot and they are very closed.. i wonder what is the purpose of their presence?

I think in the case of Uzbekistan, it was mentioned some 'unlawful' so foreigners will be expelled from any state (excluding Zardari's Pakistan) if they involve in un-lawful activities.

I was just poking fun at the notion that missionaries are somehow "dangerous" or that they will undermine a society. Nothing more than that.

Well it hasn't been so hunky dory in our part of the world. These scum actively support terrorism against us in NE India, spread shyte about our Buddhist culture and faith and use fundamentalist preaching to forcefully convert poor unarmed villagers. First they try talking nonsense about the local culture and then pay "aid" to convert them. If that doesn't work, then they use terrorism to disfigure monasteries and temples via their fanatical converted stooges.

Religion is not something to be sold like a product.Trust me, we don't want them in our lands. This is especially true for us Buddhists, mainstream Hindus and Sikhs, as we don't go on a rampage converting everyone we see to our faith branches or schools of thought. So we expect the same.

Other than these damn conversions, we're open to your culture and thinking. Trust me, your corporate system, national management and defense policies are really respected here in India and would be gladly liked to be emulated some day soon. But we have our own ancient philosophies and path of life. We don't want organized religion to create problems here.

How come you guys don't stop them? I thought south Pakistan was religiously more conservative....

i can vouch for that....

prior to my stint in Istanbul, i was taking intensive Turkish lessons in Ankara. In our class, there was an American couple (as people, they were lovely human beings) --- they were missionaries though. Doctors by profession, but active in promoting Catholic Christianity.

they had previously done missionary activity in Bishkek Kyrgyzstan.....very subtle about their activities, though they do genuinely believe that they are ''spreading love'' and ''spreading truth''

i think in general, sending missionaries (of any religion) to any country is not very appropriate....im personally against the idea. It can hurt religious sentiments of local people.

it's one thing to spread religious tolerance or promote inter-faith harmony...but its another to go to another foreign country and use NGOs or health clinics and what have you to ''cojole'' or ''encourage'' people to embrace another faith

in this day & age, such things should not be taking place...

at the same time, i do believe that if your faith and convictions are strong enough --- nobody can change them or influence them

with all due respect, as per indian version of 'stopping them' it means repeating Orissa type violence against Christians. We also know what happened to Graham Staines, the Ozzie missionary and his family who were burned alive

we have enough issues, we dont need that kind of stuff in our country

as an ideological state, missionaries would have a tough time in Pakistan anyways....maybe a few here or there in Balochistan. Traditional Baloch culture tends to be a bit more secular in nature; those missionaries there are wasting their time totally.

it becomes a problem when they claim that ''they are thr truth'' or that ''their way is best way'' or things like that

that is not good for social fabric and it is seen as meddling in other country's personal affairs......if Muslim scholars were going to American or European Christian-dominated neighbourhoods and doing the same thing -- they would not be appreciated
