That’s the real danger. Negotiations with one party is hard enough, but if the Iranians, Russians and Chinese start funding and supplying proxies in Afghanistan against Kabul’s forces and foreign forces, this war could enter another level of horror. At which point, what objectives could justify the losses. The Iranian backed Hazara commander’s shoot down of that helicopter should be an indication of how badly this situation could escalate.


It’s best to leave Afghanistan as it is now, and leave out the carrot of aid and international recognition if negotiations continue post-withdrawal.

It all depends on how long the Afghan forces stand in front of the US soldiers and how well the US soldiers support them. The moment the Kabul forces collapse the American soldiers will be in the front line and will have to make a choice of all in or all out.
