If Imran Khan had not demanded restoration of Iftikhar chaudary and resignation of Pervez Musharraf, Pakistan must have been in commanding position.

While that embargo was an unfortunate development (very bad decision on the part of US at the time), they eventually refunded a part of the total payment and delivered some of those embargoed F-16 aircraft to Pakistan after 2001 (17 out of 28). Therefore, this matter is now settled.

At present, PAF maintains an inventory of 76 F-16 aircraft which is decent enough for our needs.

Relations with US depends on how you play your ball. On the other hand, US also knows, its much cheaper to have politicians by his side or work for him.
Pakistan under the leadership of Musharraf was perfectly poised to deal with US on status of equality, but US used Imran Kahn card to pull Pakistan to the bottom of pit.

with Musharaf? rubbish. He is the type of guy who could not think 2 minutes in advance, forget strategic. Idiot almost cost Pakistan a second ignominious surrender at Kargil; wet his pants on a phone call from W and said 'yessir' which for years became the Pak military's DNA; mishandled the OBL move so badly that it got Pakistan the terrorist state monicker for decades that it is struggling to come out of; and worst of all started the abominable practice of Pak military supplying coordinates for Americans to bomb Pak people - it'd have been ok if that was used only to kill terrorists but Pak military used that to settle scores among their pet outfits!

Musharraf might be a great at commando style operations. I am not privy to his military record. The guy's strategic vision was zero except in the days after 9/11. He knew Americans would come after him if he did not agree to their demands

Are you out of your mind ? I am not a fan of Imran Khan as he still behave like at 18 year old kid but we lost our bargaining position in front of US due to weak economy as we are dependant on US aid and our biggest export Client is US so they keep us black mailing ...

Relationship with US starts declining in 2010 during Zardari era ,, at that time Imran Khan was nowhere in the scene,,,, he was a small politician ... He rose to the stature of thrid biggest political party only in 2012 ...

Furthermore, do you think NS and Zardari have spine to talk to US on equal terms?

NRO was the agreement b/w NS, PPP and establishment that all the corruption cases will be close and Musharaf will remain in power ... Whereas Missaq-e-jamhoriyat was between PPP and PMLN to agree on not to highlight the corruption of each other and support each others gov no matter what the other is doing ... These two agreements are the sole reasons of the devastation of Pakistan economy in the last decade ...

So basically NS and Zardari are indirect assets of foreign agencies and are controlled by foreign agencies. In past establishment people (like Musharaf) were also under the same role but thanks to Allah they have somehow learned the lesson and are mostly in the back seat atleast in local politics which is beneficial for Pakistan ...

I agree, but in the recent past 5 years army is trying to be on back seat of politics ...

Army might have soft spot for Imran Khan as most of the intellectual and educated community do have for IK but they are not behind him ...

If they would have been behind him then there were numerous ocassion where army could have intervene to provide him support ... during Dharnas, during SC verdict,, during model town incident and even now ...

As of this point of time army is confined to controlling foreign policy and security situation .. nothing else ...
