India is not really aligned with anyone. It is only looking out for its own interests. Even its relationship with Russia is openly called a "partnership", not friendship or alliance. India has been fortunate in that its foreign policy does not change every two years, but is a result of careful planning spanning years. Plus they have the economy to back their foreign policy.

The fact that USA was able to turn around the global opinions on NSG waiver is good show to India, how capable USA is and how much India can benefit form USA's help.

There are definitely long-term objectives for this partnership. I'm guessing at a few things:
1- Decrease Russian presence in Indian military hardware acquisitions.
2- Counter China's cultural, development and trade related influence in the region.
3- Gain access to India's massive consumer, military and tech market.
4- Possibly build American bases in and near India.
5- Increase American influence using Indian diplomacy in neighboring countries.

The fourth point seems a bit far-fetched at the moment but the possibility still remains. The US isn't going to give away so much without taking something more valuable in return. But I don't think that India will agree to become a launchpad for the US against anyone (Pakistan and China included).

No, I am referring to your mention that after the subjugation of Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan India is their real target. Well, ground realities are totally different at least if viewed from India's perspective. One thing I'll agree is the west does have a feeling that the large Indian Muslim population will be a problem for India, whereas India and Indians do not think so, this war is more to do with religion than anything else. It's a fight between the west / Islam and communism. India is a democracy so the communism card does not work India is a Hindu majority country and Hinduism does not threaten the west whatsoever and, past raiders and conquerors were in the past, in that respect India was weakened by numerous Muslim invaders and the British entered India due to Muslims again who worked with them to subjugate Hindus.

So I don't see why we should fear the west when our interests are not against one another. Pakistan enjoyed the fruits of Wests favor for the last 60 years and recently their relations have fallen out that doesn't mean that the WCC is wrong. We don't think that they are wrong anyways.

& the funniest part is that oversimplification.. they make their country's misfortune as the benchmark to judge India's relations with other countries. Only a intelectually bankrupt would come to that kinda conculsion without realising the real dimensions of India's established foreign policy, diplomatic prowess, it's stand & influence in the outside world!!

What more do you want, it is the US NGO's who are funding the anti nuclear plant and anti corruption campaigns. That is the reason their accounts are freezed. The truth is USA is scared of the rise of India and China because unlike other asian economies like Japana and North korea, India and China have vast population(work force) and educational base to make them grow for atleast 20 years that will make them number 2 and number 3.

I don't see how China and India would have made their fortunes without exporting their stuff to the west, their economy is based on overspend while ours is based more on savings, its a two way street - you cannot always expect the other to keep paying you, you have to share in their burden as well. About the NGO's and evangelist groups operating, it is India's policies which are weaker to control them. We cannot act against any religious groups. Population does not guarantee automatic growth. Pakistan and Bangladesh in our immediate neighborhood have huge populations compared to the area they administer - growth is fuelled by relations and trading. And the West is the biggest buyer out there. Look at India's prerogatives and its security concerns and consider who is trying to undermine us and who is our enemy right now.
