I think that India is very important in that that would be the case if Indians were not firmly in American camp. I also think that you underestimate how much Russians and Chinese do not want permanent American presence in Afghanistan. Note I mean long term
They are concerned about American bases, but they are more concerned about radical jihadists training next door. As powerful as the US military is, they are at least predictable and restrained by international rules of engagement. This is why neither of these countries has supported the Taliban clandestinely against NATO.
The biggest mistake the Taliban made was not to clean up their image and visibly sever ties with AQ to portray themselves as purely a nationalistic freedom struggle.
