US to Sell India Submarine-Launched Missiles

.
What is the difference between Harpoon and Brahmos?

. .
Just 12?

looks like an ice breaker deal for the new chap on the seat Mr.Kendell.

This is good for Pakistan. India has been shopping in the US market for quite a few things as of late. Politically, I'm sure the Russians will be butthurt and more willing to sell to Pakistan after deals like this are inked.

Any fool is sadly mistaken if they believe that Putin would let these sorts of things slide.

Oh yeah? If a small deal for 12 missiles is gonna piss putin off, then pray, tell me how is he going to feel after what you have done to them in the afghan war? You think the mighty bear appreciates that?? Let the time come, you will see what russia is capable of.

I'm sure time will tell. But unfortunately for Indians, it wont as bright as it was say, 5 years ago.

Ahh you guys wannabe Russian friends now ? How cute :woot:

It's only your wishful thinking. from the last 20 years, for every 5 year period, compare which country has been improving and which is not. And that is not going to change in near future.

I love how scared you've become that your mighty defence partner is soon going to shove one up yours. It's okay man.... I would be too :yahoo:.

What is the difference between Harpoon and Brahmos?
The UGM-84 series sub launched Harpoon is an all-weather, sea-skimming, cruise-monitored by radar altimeter, with active radar terminal homing over the horizon anti-ship missile system fitted with a solid-fuel rocket booster and encapsulated in a container to enable submerged launch through a torpedo tube. Its speed is high subsonic, around 850 km/h and range is 140 km. The latest UGM 84L Block II which India is acquiring has a range of 280 km.

The BRAHMOS submarine launched variant cruise missile is a supersonic cruise missile and is the world's fastest cruise missile in operation. It is a two-stage missile with a solid propellant booster engine. The missile travels at speeds of Mach 2.8 to 3.0. unlike the Harpoon which is sub sonic. Its guidance system unlike the Harpoon consists of mid-course guidance by INS Terminal guidance by homing radar seeker. Its operational range is 300 - 500km. (Export variants would be < 300km to comply with the MTCR).

I think the versions of Harpoon Block-II that come with the "L" series alphabet have almost a 100-km greater
range than "D" or other older versions (except "F" I think). For example UGM-84D has a 140km range, comparing
with other L variants, UGM-84L (the one India is getting now) should have around 220-km range I presume?
