This is about technology transfer and not sales. There is no way in hell we are getting any technology on your list other than Javelin, and the M777 howitzer in ToT. Ucav and patriot are so far out of reach it's not even funny.

On topic. What classifies as a 'technology' to be transferred? For example, If we were to get the Javelin in ToT, does just the seeker of the missile classify as a separate 'technology'? Basically want to know where they got the number from.

Russians have provided nuclear submarine and cryogenic technology. If USA is sincere it will transfer something similiar.

Don't forget air craft carrier and stealth fighter co-development.

Don't forget the Soviet atom bomb (fission and fusion) designs and samples + Mig-21, either.

Anyway, the equation is way different between USA and India (compared to SU / china).

China had nothing to offer for co-development .. and gave uranium to SU, apart from playing on soviet fears on being left alone against the west.

In this case, it is going to be co-development between Indian and USA, just on the pattern of what we already do with Israelis and Russians.

A good thing .. to diversify bilateral co-operation in technology development, all the same.

And this is a business deal. US is finding a way to ensure that the lion's share of defense expenditure would come to us. And of course, we only accept USD.

most probably Arty,Rocket Launcher,Drones(Handheld Raven Type and some Male Drones like Predator XP),Manpad,Maritime Recon Aircraft(possibly P-8I's tech),some tech regarding Helo and Gunship(we're getting some,so,they might share tech as well) and Cargo Aircrafts should be all.and also, possibly tech of some Jet Engines(strong chance.USA always knows where to strike)

we'll not get tech regarding any Armed Drones, nor tech of any Advanced Fixed wing jets,PAC-3(maybe if they're too kind for us,but we don't need it direly) or other fancy stuffs.

I think we should go for it.90 defence tech is as madly as hell.but we should measure the fall out of this.we may be forced to shun few advantages and compromise some and loose some.USA means business, nothing else.others who are whining about Russia, remember,we're not Russian Client, nor best friend.hell, when even Russia is forging their relation with Nato member France, why shouldn't we can go with USA??do we have to buy weapons for eternity or have to become self sufficient??

read my post and begone from this thread.we don't want swarms of troll to destroy this thread,do we???

I think we may actually be getting a lot more there. That Carter guy actually went on to say only Australia and UK have been offered such level of co-development.
"I let the Indian government know last week that I will be incentivizing US researchers who seek and find Indian partners in key research areas we identified previously," he added.

"We'll ensure that those innovative projects receive priority funding. This is an approach we've only ever taken with the United Kingdom and Australia, and now India will join that company."

It isn't a deal, yet.

It's only an offer.

Don't run ahead of yourself.

We have co-development deals with Israel and Russia only, as of now.

US is a newcomer, as of now. And it is early days.

Prospects off course are promising.

WASHINGTON: The US has submitted a list of 10 defence technologies for transfer to India, bringing it into a small group of closest allies with which America shares such sensitive details without export control.

Informed Indian sources confirmed that the Pentagon has submitted a list of 10 sensitive technologies for transfer from US to India.

New Delhi is "reviewing" these offers and would get back to the United States soon, with its response, they said.

Meanwhile, the US has sought opinion from its strong defence industry to identify next set of technologies which could be shared and transferred to India.

According to US sources, the number of such defence technology transfers could cross 90.

Deputy secretary of defence, Ashton Carter, who is leading unleashing of the defence ties between India and the US through the defence trade and technology initiative, said the US has submitted a white paper explaining where India falls within US export control system.

"The paper we sent them covered several key areas from export controls rules themselves to end use monitoring and the need to identify proposals for co-production and co-development," he said at the Center for American Progress.

"We have demonstrated repeatedly that we can release sensitive technology to India. We've adapted our system in ways that will speed our release process for India, especially in the department of defence, recognizing that for, of course, all partners, this process is subject to case-by-case review and there will always be some technologies that we will keep to ourselves," Carter said.

"We changed our mindset around technology transfer to India in the department of defence from a culture of presumptive no to one of presumptive yes," he said.

Asserting that India has been brought at part with closet of its allies, Carter said the Obama Administration has now included India in the list of "so called Group of Eight" that receives the best of the technologies without export control.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who recently met US President Barack Obama, has said steps have been taken to expand the India-US ties and move away from a buyer-seller cooperation to joint development and production in the field of defence.

India to be among core 8 group benefiting from US R&D.I guess we might be second non-NATO member of that so called group.

If all goes well, there might be 90 such sensitive transfers in due course. What might be those techs any ideas ?? Will this announcement lend us weight in our current ongoing negotiations with French ???
