US Sends "Tankbuster" Jets To Europe Over Russia Fears After Germany Says "A Large Scale War Could Develop"
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 02/18/2015

Karl-Georg Wellmann, a lawmaker in Angela Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union has warned that, despite its efforts to avoid arms being provided to Ukraine, Germany "will no longer be able to stop weapons deliveries from from the U.S. and Canada." Almost too coincidental to these comments, CNN reports, the U.S. Air Force is sending its A-10 "tankbusters" back to Europe in order to "increase rotational presence in Europe to reassure our allies and partner nations that our commitment to European security is a priority." As Wellmann ominously concludes, seemingly confirming Putin's warning yesterday that if Kiev aims at a military solution, war will never end, "a large-scale war could develop out of that."

As Bloomberg reports, Germany May Be Unable to Stop Weapons to Ukraine, Lawmaker Says

Karl-Georg Wellmann, a lawmaker in Angela Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union and chairman of the German-Ukrainian parliamentary group, tells newspaper Tagesspiegel that Germany won’t be able to halt U.S. weapons deliveries to Ukraine to fight Russian-supported separatists.

"We will no longer be able to stop weapons deliveries from from the U.S. and Canada" after rebel gains in the strategic town of Debaltseve in eastern Ukraine, Wellmann tells Tagesspiegel in interview

"A large-scale war could develop out of that," Wellmann says

Wellmann says further economic sanctions against Russia are "unavoidable," Tagesspiegel says
And so, as CNN reports, The US is sending in the Warthogs...

The U.S. Air Force is sending its "tankbusters" back to Europe.

The service's European Command said this week that 12 A-10 Thunderbolts would be deployed to Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany, as part of Operation Atlantic Resolve, which was formed after Russia's intervention in Ukraine over the past year.

Why would a large scale war erupt? Can someone explain the scenario he's mentioning?

if russia is directly supporting ukrainian rebels, us and nato will have to directly support ukrainan military, which will lead to direct confrontation of two giants.....

Russia is ruled by a dictator who is ready to start the WWIII in order to recreate USSR. There are 9000 Russian special ops troops in rebel uniforms fighting in Ukraine. Full scale conflict will cause war in Europe. Hundreds of million or even billions of people may die and may end the human civilization on earth due to nuclear war.

Very unlikely.

Who can blame Russia for guarding its interests. US should back off. If the people of Eastern Ukraine support Russia the said country has every right to act. USA should stop viewing the world with its narrow parochial vision. The US is causing a mess around the world which others have to clean up. Look at how they shamelessly supported the same mujahideen that are now blowing things up in Afghanistan and Pakistan. They provided tank buster and anti helecopter missiles to them. Haqqani met Ronald Reagan.

Wow that was a just war, because we are Americans we can bomb Japan with atom bombs too for our national interest. Show your sick face somewhere else. Asia now knows better to unite under another power after you betray countries like Pakistan.

Very unlikely.

WW I was also started by a assassination of Archduke a minor incident.

Russia's interest is to keep peace in its neighborhood not start wars.

There is one place in particular where this crisis could turn very nasty very fast.

Theoretically Putin could seize the Baltic Nations (Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, all three are NATO members) which, by treaty, should have NATO respond by declaring war on Russia. If NATO doesn't respond, the alliance collapses, Europe is shaken to its core, and all American assurances and treaties around the world would be worthless. Goodbye to US hegemony. In one move, Putin could split the western world so badly it would take decades for them to recover. No more NATO, no more America, no more problems for Putin. But thats a pipe dream.

NATO is not stupid enough to let that happen. NATO would declare war on Russia and push them out of the Baltics, and wouldn't invade Russia itself because of the risk of the conflict going nuclear.War is over.

So Putin has to ask himself, exactly how strong politically is the NATO alliance? How much are they willing to sacrifice? If he gambles and is right, he wins one of the biggest geopolitical victories in history. If he gambles and is wrong, hard times are in store for Russia, again.

Just my view

Whatever happens, if there is risk of world war give us 2 week warning to make travel arrangements. :coffee:
