USA is already the biggest buyer of Pakistani textiles, even without an FTA, and has considerable leverage by this fact alone.

Trade is not valuable enough to really be used as leverage at the moment though, its why the americans constantly threaten the few hundred million in support funds every year rather than a blockade

With such an agreement though other countries in the region will look to send goods through Pakistan for export and look to import goods via Pakistan too. This bonus alongside CPEC and a more efficient government, might make a looming threat of trade embargo worth it if Pakistan uses the opportunity to speed up human development

This Graham reminds me of Charlie Wilson. Trying to make a witty move to turn the tide in US favor.

Remember folks. We won’t be bitten multiple times. We won’t say no to any free trade agreement, but we won’t become hostage by it.

We fully understand what the US is trying to propose here. The goal is to simply move Pakistan out of China’s sphere and throw another F-16 like offer we cannot refuse. Only this time the F-16 is a FTA. Well, it sounds all dandy, but there shouldn’t be a catch here. Nothing detrimental towards the Pakistan first cause.

1. CPEC is non-negotiable;
2. China Pakistan alliance is non-negotiable;
3. Indian policeman role is unacceptable.

No doubt that CPEC has riled up many at CIA/Pentagon headquarters. The Americans aren’t stupid. They fully grasp that the economic component is eventually going to transform into a military one. This despite Pakistani and Chinese assurances. The Americans cannot stand this idea for one second. The Americans are dead against the concept of military/naval outposts for China. It sets alarm bells. It makes the US generals anxious. To imagine that CPEC is a test case that could be replicated elsewhere is an American nightmare.

There is NO GAME CHANGER here folks - It is just another TRAP by the good old US. A few years ago we had people in Pak military establishment and bureaucracy who thought US was God's Angel on Earth, and literally took every word coming out of US's mouth as Gospel Truth. But hopefully there is finally some intelligence in these people to know that US is no body friend's but only a venomous snake and a snake will ALWAYS bite sooner or later.
