ISLAMABAD: The US Embassy has refuted claims of 19,000 US/ISAF containers missing from Karachi ports.

In a press release the US Embassy stated: “Media suggestions that 19,000 United States/ISAF containers were stolen, including containers that contain weapons and ammunition are false.”

According to the statement, the US nor ISAF had ever shipped weapons or ammunition via Karachi ports.

“All United States government and ISAF cargo shipments are subject to inspection by Pakistani customs authorities. The United States and ISAF use carriers who are licensed and bonded by Pakistani Customs authorities. The United States tracks and accounts for all military cargo shipments worldwide, including those shipments entering and transiting Pakistan.”

The statement added that appropriate Pakistani authorities had been engaged on this topic and the US was able to account for all shipments which had arrived and transited Karachi ports.

KARACHI: The US embassy on Thursday refuted media reports that claimed around 19,000 International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) containers were stolen from the Karachi port.
In a press release, the embassy stated that “media suggestions of stolen containers, including those containing weapons and ammunition, are false.”
“While the United States routinely uses Karachi ports for both diplomatic and military shipments, neither the United States nor ISAF has ever shipped weapons or ammunition via Karachi ports,” the press release said.
Earlier on September 2, the Supreme Court ordered inquiry into the issue of missing containers.
A commission led by Ramzan Bhatti was directed to initiate investigations.
