US Ready to Use Nuclear, Conventional Weapons to Defend Japan

We already are a great power. The Japanese Navy, alone, is larger than the British, French and German Navies combined. We are the 3rd largest economy in the world, with FOREX of over $2.5 Trillion, and the manpower to field 53 million troops in time of war. We have the largest merchant marine fleet in the world, a space power that has our eyes in the heavens with constant surveillance on the happenings in the world. Don't mistaken Japan's silence for incapacity. Our Potential Energy enables profound kinetic energy when the time arises.
Nah uh, you're not! I'm sorry. Sure, you are a great naval power but being a military great power require multiple dimensions. Traditional, land power is the core of any military power. Now you got air, navy, and space add on to it. I wouldn't say the France, Great Britain, or Germany a great power. Combine, they are one but single, they are not. It is also important to remember great power put their own ambition and national interest above all else.

You know why China split with the Soviet Union back in the day? Yes, that same ambition that we want to be an independent great power, a pole within the global landscape, not a junior member to the Soviet who not only guarantee nuclear umbrella but also economic development. We said no thank. That's is the ambition that I'm talking about. Can Japan say the same to the US? Let god decide that. LOL

Sometime you have to face the truth. The geopolitical reality is not what you like to hear. That I understand. Nobody wants to hear the truth. In fact, the India is more likely to reach a great power status than Japan. It is just that India lack substance so their hard power can't change fact on the ground and thus they still struggling to force a global shift.

Well, I do appreciate your conjecture, tho I disagree on some points. Thanks for responding with civility and with decorum.

Regards.

Dude, when you respond to me just speak like a pragmatic realist. No need to sugarcoat or fishing for compliment. I'm straight up real in any discussion. LOL

Very solid points Mike. There is a proverbial saying in Japanese, which characterizes the situation.

The Japanese form is,
これをしるをこれをしるとなし、しらざるをしらずとなせ。これしるなり

Our Chinese friends know this saying as,
知之为知之,不知为不知,是知也

In essence it is a quote from Kongzi Sensei (Confucius), "To know what you know, as well as to known the unknown, therein lies the absolute character of Wisdom."

:)

Tomodachi,

The overall Japanese people wish , aspire for better relations between our countries, and it has ome a long way since the start of the unfortunate incident regarding the island row. For too long that has been used as pretext to fan the flames of national misunderstanding and savage speak -- used as context for war talk in both Japanese and Chinese societies. This, from my understanding, is a radical stance that do not truly capture the true spirit of both Japan and China.

As for the Government of Japan ; it is not a homogenous institution , rather it is rather heterogeneous in that it has elements within the House of Councilors and House of Representatives who are pro-China-Japan as well as those who are pro-USA-Japan. Even amongst the ranks of the LDP leadership , there are significant members who are pro-China such as Tanigaki Sadakazu (Seretary General) and Otsuji Hidehisa (Leader of the House of Councilors, the Upper House of the National Diet). So not everything is purely black and white , as even in the conservative wing of Japanese parties , being pro-Japan doesn't necessarily mean anti-China. And that is one thing we have to understand, what Chinese intelligentsia have to understand in regards to Japanese political economy. In the end, the central piece is balancing Japan's political relationship with the United States with her relationship with China , South Korea, and hte rest of Asia, which as far as recently has been rather pragmatic, given the political environment.

I understand that there is suspicion on Prime Minister Abe's sincerity and on the sincerity of the Japanese Government. Well as far as I know we have to understand that our elected officials in government are supposed to represent the electoral will of the people, however, they have their personal input given the capacity of their legislative, executive and moral decision. Abe has been elected by the Japanese electoral system , however, some of his decision making does not necessarily mean it is reflective of Japan's will. Leaders are given a sense of personal autonomy on their governing style. For example Barack Obama. By national mandate he was elected as the President of the United States, but his decision making and policy initiatives in regards to foreign policy doesn't necessarily mean it is supported by the majority of Americans, given the bipartisan nature of American federal and state governments.

Let us keep that in mind when analyzing Japanese political economy and how this plays in context to the Japanese-Chinese equation and dynamic. I hope that was a decent explanation, my friend.

To continued good health , peace and development for China and Japan -- and the rest of Greater East Asia !

Well said Japans foreign minister alias diplomat. :enjoy:

. .
that is not fair. how about vietnam? our people need protection, too.

here in germany, I even enjoy a double nuclear umbrellas by america and france. if anyone dares to nuke germany, the aggressor will be nuked twice. I feel very safe :-)
US's nuke in German-JP are to destroy German-JP if US think that they can't control German-JP anymore.

True talk, Japan indeed has the most poweful space rocket in Asia even today, Thats what most people forget. If we were to look at this parameter,i.e launch lift capacity then Japan still leads Asia for now(it has for quite a while now) even before China. So in some ways Japan has all it takes to develop a Long range missile with a world wide reach. Its just their constitution and the fact that they lost the second world war that limits them so much and prevents them from developing such offensive weapons. So China and other Asian countries should be grateful for that. lol :)

To be honest, you said nothing that we dont already know about you. All what you said was expected, since you have said similar things several tims on here.lool Well since Japan is going bankrupt and is going to collapse soon(never mind that many peple have also been saying the same thing about China,.lool) then why does China worry about Japan then?? In fact if that was the case China should just ignore Japan and take the senkakus islands back since Japan is a broke irrelevant country and cant stand up to super power China at all. LMAO.

Also you say japanese brands are bankrupt and they are not good in technology??? Are you being sarcastic or yo are serious??o_O You are saying that compared to China? With all due respect China is still significantly behind Japan technologically and even in world brands. In fact there is no comparism yet. People all over he world can name several Japanese brands off their heads, but Chinese brands?? When you mention Japan all over the world peope associate it immediately with quality/technology. Mention China and hmmmmmmmm........NO COMMENT. There are several Japanese products/brands who still enjoy a good market share in China, but how many Chinese brands can be said to have a significant market share in Japan??:what: You can make fun of your much poorer/smaller/weaker other Asian neighbours/countries, but im afraid you cant make fun/downplay Japan. You dont yet enjoy a significant technological advantage over them at all. Japan can handle its own against China any day. Its for this reason you two have always been rivals for centuries and reason you are still bitter about the fact that they ever dared to invade China decades ago.:enjoy:

As i said before, dont/never make fun of a country that is still ahead of you/more developed and advanced than you. When you have fully surpass them/got to the top, then you can start making fun of them. But dont count your eggs before they hatch my friend.:bounce::disagree:

China has far surpassed Japan in economics, financially, militarily and technologically. Japan has nothing to compete with China.

China has more brands than Japan in global lists based on revenue (opinion doesn't matter, facts do). Japanese brands were relevant in the 1980's but pretty much all Japanese brands except Toyota and Sony are making massive losses and are irrelevant nowadays. Chinese brands are on the up taking marketshare from its global rivals. While Japanese brands did have their 15 seconds of fame during the 1980's and 1990's, Japan Inc is dying just like the Japanese economy.

Chinese economy is double that of Japan.

Chinese household wealth has surpassed Japan.

China has enormous natural resources which Japan doesn't have.

China is a bigger manufacturer than Japan.

China has a bigger consumer market than Japan.

China is a bigger exporter than Japan.

China is a bigger importer than Japan.

China is a bigger trading nation than Japan.

China is a bigger investor than Japan.

China is a bigger lender than Japan.

China is a bigger consumer of energy, electricity, oil, gas, coal, wind, solar, hydro, grain, vegetables, fruits, automobiles, smartphones, televisions, computers, aircraft, gaming, movies, etc etc etc (I could go on and on and on). China has surpassed Japan in terms of consumer market in pretty much every category.

Even the Renminbi is not far off surpassing the Yen in the SWIFT payments marketshare, and Renminbi already surpassed the Yen in trade finance marketshare.

Chinese stock market is bigger than Japan.

China has bigger R&D spending than Japan.

China has bigger military budget than Japan.

China has sent humans to space which Japan never will.

China has ICBM's, SSBN's, nuclear weapons, beidou navigation system, which Japan doesn't.

China is a far more dominant sporting nation in the Olympics.

China has UNSC veto power.

I can name a MASSIVE list where China has surpassed Japan.

The area Japan is ahead of China is being slavishly subservient to a foreign power

With each passing year China will continue to make Japan look like the insignificant little midget that it is and as China grows stronger, Japan will continue in its 25 year decline into complete irrelevancy like Britain.

Spot on!If Japan continue with the current course of actions-they will have fate worst than UK even.If Japan want to be strong, prosperious country-she needs to liberate herself .USA agents, local traitors,USA soldiers and bases need to be booted out from country. But I do not have high hopes-for 70 years Japanese people did not show any desire to do so.And if view of our Japanese friend here are views of majority of people in Japan ...well no hope for Japan.Country will continue to be USA slave, continue to go down and will have even worst fate than UK at the end.

Speaking to other Chinese people here, it'd be a mistake to underestimate Japan. China is without a doubt the most powerful country in the region but Japan is not really the joke people think they are.

@Nihonjin1051

How much of this is Abe just trying to wiggle out from under the US? Or does he really believe getting involved with US foreign policy in the Middle East is good for Japan?

JP is like a Pitbull -a fierce fighter, but unlike like a wolf, it (Pitbull) will die if living in wild life without boss :pop:

. .
I have no respect for a country that is slavishly subservient to another country. A country that has no pride or dignity should NEVER be respected.

What's the point of being a sovereign country if you don't have an independent foreign policy.

I will NEVER respect Japan.....EVER!
CN is divided into 2 parts (Mainland-TW) by US bcz CN is a loser in CN-TW conflict, too

Dont insult JP when u also have to accept US's rule over TW , its just like "The pot calling the kettle black":pop:
