KARACHI: The United States has taken steps to restore diplomatic ties with Pakistan as an overture to dissipate ongoing tensions.

Washington views the ongoing rift as a major stumbling block for its relations with Islamabad and have initiated contact with the federal government in this regard.

The Trump administration told Pakistan via its diplomatic channels that it will continue to hold engage in discourse to foster ties between the two countries. The US will do its best to address the federal government’s reservations through a process of dialogue, sources within the federal government said.

Relations between the two are expected to improve through renewed efforts, they added.

According to them, significant headway was made in the meeting between Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and US Vice President Mike Pence in the recent meeting.

The new talks reportedly go by the agenda “Better Pak-US relations”.

Not cutting ties with Pakistan: US diplomat

The acting foreign secretary of US had detailed meetings with top government and military officials to discuss the bilateral relations, support against terrorism as well as the situation in Afghanistan and regional affairs.

“The Trump administration is willing to support Pakistan for ensuring peace in Afghanistan” the sources said, adding that the foreign secretary also told Pakistani authorities to play active role in promoting peace within Afghanistan.

Pakistan has expressed its willingness to engage in dialogue with the Afghan government led by President Ashraf Ghani.

“Pakistan has intimated that it wants good relations with the Trump administration,” the sources said, adding, “However, all diplomatic channels will orchestrate a policy of fair dealing and equality.”

Of course ,our military did the best job .

But it is diplomatic issue as Pakistan is moving away slowly and gradually from the U.S influence.

The U.S does not want to see Pakistan with Russia on Afghan issue.

.
Now that they have a diplomatic tussle with Russia, A trade war with China, they do need some allies in the region, don't they?

I think you didn't get me... I am saying opposite to what yr political parties and establishment is saying in public (about No More Do More) and not towing on the US lines.....covertly they are just doing the opposite. Recently they have attacked the so called Friendly Afghan Taliban in Af-Pak border to delight US so that US in turn would go soft on Pak in international forums especially as you direly need IMF loans now.

We need to show a middle finger. There is no point in having a one-sided relationship.

Now that they have a diplomatic tussle with Russia, A trade war with China, they do need some allies in the region, don't they?

Pakistan has become a punching bag and go to guy. It is a relationship of convenience. Nothing good can ever come out of such a terrible relation. A marriage doesn't last between two people who can't get along. How can two nations get along?

The US is a cunning nation. They are only seeking a relation with Pakistan because it has nuclear weapons and is strategically placed. Pakistan cannot afford such a duplicitous relationship.

Time has come to take a firm decision. The US will always harm Pakistan's interests because it receives dictation from India. The US belongs on the Indian side. Pakistan needs to very firmly tell the Yanks thanks, but no thanks.

not welcome we hate USA. they are core of our most problems

There is hardly a need to develop or foster ties with the US other than whats necessary. Pakistan needs to get out of US influence once for all. Let them know if they hate us, we dont love them either and if we have lied and deceived them for decades, they have not done otherwise as well starting all the way back from Pressler amendment.

what has Russia to do with it here ? Pakistan is largely insignificant when it comes to contain Russia. Russia is not playing Syria in Afghanistan so don't overrate Pakistan's relations with russia which are just 'ok' as of now.

However, Pakistan's geo strategic position is immense important w.r.t US presence in Afghanistan and they badly need Pakistan support for their troops on security since Afghan Talibans are getting stronger every passing month. US will keep their troops in Afghanistan for many years to come now. They need base against China,Iran and to keep Pakistan nuclear assets in check so Afghanistan just provides them that luxury.
