Your doctrine dealing with China would be no different before the U.S. even suggested an alliance with India. Take this opportunity to access to technologies that would have taken years to achieve.

you should know,India has certain difference with China and we also like to (not officially) "little bit of containment" of China for our own good. but forging an alliance with USA to do that isn't our policy.may be India will work with USA,Japan and other countries to a certain extent,but creating a block...not going to happen.see,India is already pursuing its "Look East" policy hard to achieve it..what India wants is to decrease influence of China to a certain degree while increasing ours.and it is working.eg. Ganga-Mekong Co-Op,current influence on Vietnam etc..

US needs to understand what US is offering makes no sense....INDIANS don't want to maintain high-fi weapons by trading their freedom & soverginity but they do maintain their freedom & soverginity by using weapons(even if it's third class).........concept of weapons purchasing is lost once u accept to the strings attached()......
