Witnesses said Feras Morad, 20, had reportedly taken magic mushrooms for the first time at a party in Long Beach, California, and appeared to be walking around like a ‘bird with a broken wing’.

According to a witness account, Morad became confused and unresponsive and was “asking friend what he was doing” after which he jumped through a second-storey window.

Morad received a ‘deep gash’ from going through the glass and hitting the concrete below, following which his friends called in the police.
Upon their arrival, the young Muslim boy was tasered and subsequently shot dead by the officers.

The family of the boy confirmed that they received the news over Facebook due to the failure of the police, hospital and LA county coroner’s office to inform them.
Police said that the student had been acting ‘threateningly’ and refused to comply with officers, who then utilised “an electronic control device, an impact weapon and physical force to gain compliance,” according to a statement.
The police statement, however, became questionable as testimonies were posted online disputing the police version of the story.

A statement posted on the Justice4Feras Facebook page says he was “shirtless, without any weapon, bleeding from multiple wounds, and possibly suffering head trauma from the fall when officers made their demands”.

It further added that he did not physically swing, attack, or verbally indicate aggression toward the police officer or anyone else but was unable to comply because he was confused and injured “like a bird with a broken wing hobbling around in the house”.

Witness reports said that there was no fight between Morad and the police, just the police officer trying to subdue him.

As friends were removed from the scene by emergency personnel, they continued to scream that Feras was unarmed and in need of help as the unnamed police officer fired three shots, all on target.
A nationally-ranked debater at high school, Morad’s family had high hopes of him becoming an attorney general who would represent victims of police brutality.

It was further reported that Morad had a 3.9 GPA at Moorpark College, and friends on the Facebook page said he was also a good army cadet.

“He wasn’t supposed to be shot, even if he did something, if he was under the influence, he should not have been shot, he does not harm anyone,” said Morad’s father, Amr Morad.
“I knew Feras and enjoyed spending time with him and arguing politics with him. The world lost a good and decent man who was very kind and smart,” wrote Eric Smith in a tribute to the promising student online on the page.

“At a time when he desperately needed a police officer to protect and serve him, a cop decided it was better to shoot him and kill him. He deserved better and it is the job of all who knew him to tell the world what happened,” he added.
Another close friend, Lisa Michelle Bran, wrote, “Wow I went to school with him and had a pleasure of knowing him and having class with. Prayers go out to his family.”

It was confirmed by Ohad Yeger that “he was a good cadet and I always saw him as a rival, we had countless arguments trying to better one another and in the process I had motivation to be a better person, he challenged me intellectually and dared me to do better and I’ll never forget that.”

Not only he was unarmed and didn't pose any threat. He was first teasered and then fatally shot. I would say another low by the Muricans against Muslims but this list is quite long. All those "expats" who gloat about "civil rights & liberties" in Murica need to have a good look at this.

I'm usually sceptical about the "innocents" shot by police (Michael Brown in Ferguson for example was obviously a thug) but this young man does seem pretty harmless.

Police killing of unarmed college debater under scrutiny

Authorities released the name of a 20-year-old man who allegedly approached and threatened a Long Beach police officer before the officer fatally shot him.

By HARRIET RYAN AND DEBORAH NETBURN

Feras Morad, 20, was killed Wednesday night in what police say was a bizarre confrontation with an officer trying to help him. Relatives and friends of Morad, who attended Moorpark College, have criticized the police in online postings. They say he was killed while “unarmed and in desperate need of medical attention.”

The shooting is the subject of ongoing investigations by the Long Beach police and the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office. The officer has not been identified.

Police say Morad became violent and appeared to be under the influence of drugs while with friends at an apartment on East 15th Street. He started “acting erratically and got into a physical altercation with his friends that lasted approximately 10 minutes,” according to a Police Department statement.

Morad then jumped through a second-story plate-glass window, the release said. An arriving officer saw a man covered in blood and announced he was there to help him, according to the release, but Morad moved toward him “telling the officer he was going to attack him.”

After using a Taser and “an impact weapon” on Morad without success, the officer shot him, according to the police statement.

Kareem Morad, a cousin of the victim, said in an interview Sunday that Feras was a good man who made a bad decision. He said he had made the “silly mistake of experimenting with [hallucinogenic] mushrooms and, unfortunately, he had a bad reaction to it. He needed help and he didn’t get the help he needed.”

“It is real tough right now,” he said. “His mother is completely broken down and had to be sent to the hospital after this situation, and his father doesn’t want to think about a lawsuit because it won’t help him. He just wants his son back.”

I would say against non white people.. coz there is little chance that they know his religion.

When taking magic mushrooms you need to be in a relaxed environment, not running about on the street. No wonder he had a bad reaction to it.

Yeah 'White Privilege' is prominent there, but i am looking at it from another angle.

He had a "bad trip", attacking his friends and injuring himself. What should the police be trained to do in these situations? I'm not in favor of shooting, tasering won't work, the person is a danger to himself and others who get near. Perhaps it would have been better for his friends to wait until he had injured himself to the point police action wasn't called for but ambulance service was?

Can't see what student's religion had to do with it but I don't understand how "magic mushrooms" work on the psyche, either.

considering number of black and hispanics being killed, I would say the other angle is not really promising.

He wasn't running around. He started running after he consumed the mushrooms and then he jumped out of the window. Police teasered him and then shot him, obviously with the intent of killing him.

The other angle is as promininet as the sky above our heads, if you cant see that out of your personal views, then there is nothing i can reason with.

You must be that racist white guy. There is enough and mounting evidence of American police' trigger happy approach to black men and those from other minorities. DO some research then comment.

nope its not clear. May be you are muslim, so I think it feels like they are after you all the time.
I think number of muslim death is completely insignificant (wholly different issue when airport security is involved) compared to black (massive) and hispanics (significant).
I dont have stats to prove, I am basing on news stories I hear coming from US, but yeah if you got stats, I would totally agree with you.
