I watched this absolute shameful disaster lol. The guy is like a child. No diplomacy, hardly an ounce of tactfulness and an insatiable appetite to constantly berate his predecessor who BTW, had 1000 times more character to be the president of the top country in the world. His constant need to validate his election win by insulting and demeaning his opponents (whom he beat) is so obviously a sign of his insecurity. Something a 13 year-old girl would struggle with, not the president elect of the United States of America. It's mind-blowing, but not shocking anymore. It's an amazing phenomenon what we're witnessing on a daily basis.

Here you're addressing a bunch of 12 year-old boy scouts and it's an absolute no-brainer what you should be talking about. Character building, role models to follow, making good decisions, the future of their lives and encouragement and things of that sort. The rubbish that came out of his flap trap was anything but that. It was actually contrary to the values of what an organization like the boy scouts would and should encourage. Just another embarrassment to add to the daily, growing list.

What's even more interesting is Trump thinking Andrew Jackson, a plantation and owner of over 150 slaves was upset about the civil war and would've solved the issue of slavery and partition of the US into 2 countries without a war, seeing that he was dead for 16 years prior to the war lol.

Indeed. The party-line transformation was not only platforms and policies, it was geographic like you showed. Really remarkable. The western part of the country had quite a bit to do with it. They needed to reach out their influence by helping expand, settle and build the west. Between Abraham Lincoln and FDR was when the two "party platform" switch, or more like transfer happened. Post Civil War, the Republicans were passing social and economic laws to help the newly integrated African Americans into society and the Democrats realized these social programs were helping with party popularity and needed to conform. The Republicans were very effective in understanding what it took to keep power and at the same time, make the country grow with reforms and the west that you mentioned was a large part of that. It needed to be settled to grow the country from the more dominated and settled eastern north and south and closer parts of the mid-west. They created government funding for huge projects like the transcontinental railway and roadways etc. They started all sorts of social programs to help the "new American Citizens" and they were the ones who created the state university program, among several others. The Democrats had no choice but to realize these things and so they slowly started adopting a similar party platform. The depression and what FDR's democratic party had to deal with pretty much sealed the party platform that we know of today. The Republican shift was a bit different. As liberal as they might have been at the time of Abraham Lincoln, they were also quite conservative by the standards of those days and that conservatism has certainly grown within the party, while their liberalism faded away.

Besides the issue of freeing the slaves, there was another major and potentially devastating consequence to the Civil War had the Confederates won (who made up the majority of those southern Democratic states) that would have altered the entire United States as we know it today. If the Confederates won, the 11 states that basically made up the Confederacy would have officially separated from the Union and formed their own country. Who knows what would have transpired from then on, but the thought that could (and most likely would) have altered this entire country from what it is today is almost a forgotten thing. Imagine 2 countries?

Lincoln's emancipation proclamation only gave him powers to control ownership of the slaves had the Union defeated the Confederates. They still would've been slaves and slavery wouldn't have been officially abolished. He needed the Union to win the war decisively to keep it a Union and one country, then pass the 13th amendment to officially free the slaves. There was A LOT more at stake than just freeing the slaves, not that it was a minor thing anyway.
