US offers India $170 mn deal for sale of 24 harpoon missiles

. .
WASHINGTON: The Pentagon said Tuesday it has notified the US Congress of a possible sale to India of two dozen Harpoon air to ground anti-ship missiles.

Such a deal would be worth as much as 170 million dollars, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said.

"India intends to use the Harpoon missiles to modernize its air force anti-surface warfare mission capabilities and improve its naval operational flexibility," the agency said in a statement. Boeing would be the prime contractor.

The 84L Harpoon Block II missiles are designed primarily as satellite guided anti-ship missiles.

Possible missile sale to India: Pentagon

IAF Jaguars have Sea Eagle Anti-ship missiles, IN ships fire mostly Kh-35 anti-ship missile, IN submarines of Russian origin are acquiring Club/Klub anti-ship missiles, IN Sea King helicopters also carry Sea Eagle AShMs......

Indian Scorpene subs are going to fire SM-39 Exocet AShM. BrahMos supersonic cruise missile is also being fitted to various launch platforms.

This makes a wide array of AShMs and to this add the latest purchase of Harpoons. In total that makes some SIX AShM types......a massive build-up indeed....

Question?

Would the Harpoons be used from any submarine the IN has now?
Which missile is better, the Harpoon, Exocet or the KLUB?
The Brahmos is not sub ready yet, no platform other then maybe Akula or ATV right, and that is still years away.

Has any of the Subs (KILOs or 209) launched a ASCM before Other then in Russian waters as part of the subs acceptance trials?

What about the AGOSTA 90B can they match what India has I take it the 90B's fire the EXOCET and the 70s fire the Harpoon.. can a harpoon be fired from a 90B and and Exocet from a 70?

how about the HAMZA anything new with the Fire control system can it fire both missiles?

With all these ASCMs are the days of firing torpedoes gone?

Any naval doctrine changes on the way?:mod:
