US Navy helps stranded Iranian sailors

A US naval ship came to the aid of two stranded Iranian sailors in the early hours of Thursday morning in the Arabian Gulf, providing food and water until the arrival of the Iranian coast guard.

The US Navy was notified by a merchant vessel of the two stranded sailors in a life raft after an emergency flare was seen and the USS Oscar Austin was sent to provide help, said a statement issued by the Bahrain-based US Fifth Fleet.

The sailors were found just about 1 km outside Iranian territorial waters at 5am local time and were provided food and water. The US Navy contacted Iranian authorities via neighbouring Oman.

The mariners said their fishing boat had sunk the night before and they did not know about the whereabouts of the other crewmembers. An Iranian Coast Guard ship showed up just past noon and took the two men aboard and thanked the navy, said the statement.

"We're glad that we were able to coordinate the rescue of the mariners with the Iranian Coast Guard," said Lt Cmdr. Steve Ansuinni of the Fifth Fleet in the statement. In August, an aircraft carrier from the fleet rescued eight Iranian fisherman.

No comments here from either Pakistani members or Iranian members. Why not appreciate a good gesture just as condemn a bad one?

Thanks for the post, Sri Lankan.

No we wait for uninvited judgmental posts by Indian members.
Considering the myraid of topics that are posted..and discussed..
attention takes time.. Pakistani's dont spend all their day on this forum just looking for chances to post comments on topics... they have other things in life to do as well.
Sri Lankan is probably one of the best contributes on this forum..
Yet even his threads arrive at a certain time..and that time may not coincide with the routines of our populous.
Thank you for the appreciation for Sri Lankan..
But no thanks on your judgmental sounding post...without a proper reason.

Now..
As far as the thread goes..
gestures like these have occurred in the past.. not just in this time-line..but before..
It helps build people to people grass root exposure to the perceived enemy...it may work out well.. if used correctly for positive PR.. it may work out badly.. if used for propaganda.

This is not a simple world we live in. It is controlled by, well mostly corrupt, powerful men who can cheat peoples minds and eyes and they are very successful in doing this.

Those may or may not be sailors. Why there was such a critical monitoring just outside Iranian territory? There maybe a rescue or maybe...ahem...a plant  I don't want to pass any judgments though

Its good of the americans to help the sailors but its just a norm...nothing out of the ordinary.

Bangladesh and other countries don't have same relations with US that Iran has. So here it is a special case. Don't you agree?

Friend, I meant that since some members have hailed Iran and criticized US before on other threads, maybe some appreciation could be sent at this act of keeping politics aside and helping out Iranian sailors by US navy.

Any such action whether from Iran, USA, us, you, etc should be appreciated that's all. :)

I don't know why this means anything.

In the public, America always propagates Iran as the enemy- no, the enemy to the world. What difference does it make.

There you got your comment.

290 people died when the US shot down Iran Air Flight 655. The US never admitted any responsibility or offered any apology. I doubt a few rescued sailors will many any difference to Iranian opinion toward the americans.

I dont have instances but feel India and Pakistan would be doing such deeds towards each other regularly even during war. India recently rescued Chinese sailors in the Arabian sea.So no big deal. Can someone dig such deeds done by Indians and Pakistani's towards each other.

International law states that sailors have to help other sailors in distress. You can be prosecuted, and have your license revoked for not responding to a distress call. This is not political, national or religious.

Well whatever the relations btw USA and Iran, we need to appreciate good gesture as humanity by US for saving the life's of these ppl
