US govt shutdown may force Isro to delay Mars mission launch by 2 years

We had to start from scratch ....they got crucial assistance from time to time .

right in the beginning in 1960 Soviet Russia provided crucial start by giving readymade rockets , missile technology and help to establish infrastructure - thousands of technincians were trained at Mosco aviation , space institutes later after fall out from Soviets - americans in process to wean them from Russia provided unretrsicted dual purpose use technology items ....and after fall of Soviet union they got numerous engineers , technicians as well as ready made platforms not only from Russia but also from Ukraine etc ...Their Space programme in 60 years old while ours is just 30 year old ....

We have done magnificent job , given our constrains ....

We had no God father ....and we were not served ready- to eat platter .....

There is no need therefore to compare with China !!!

We shall move at our own pace !!!

We do not need to build space lab ...as when we have capability we can join ISS programme .

Other countries did not want China to join ISS so China had to build its own space lab ....

Totally agree with you on your strategy. India should build a module and join it to the international space program. India can ask US or EU to launch the space module. However, the launch of the space module would require India to send astronaut up to ISS in Suyoz. India can become the 5th space agency after US, Russia, EU and Japan to have a module in ISS.

Calm down, bro.

He's being watched over as he comments here. Remember the Great Firewall of China and its surveillance networks? He can't help it.

Maybe if we were to encounter this guy on a beach somewhere in a third country, we'd probably share a drink or two and be good friends. In his home country, he's not free to speak and understand. He has to do as told.

___

ON TOPIC; It becomes absolutely necessary for ISRO to fast track all the plans for IRNSS. and other such capabilities.

We will need our own satellite systems online ASAP because in future we cannot afford any sort of delays on key missions.

US has a virtual monopoly in this area until now.

I agree on the highlighted parts. I've been noticing trends in the way the Chinese people on this forum post. Makes one ponder whether there's some sort of behind the scenes, coordination going on.

India's space programme is constrained by technological road-blocks...

Manned space programme is on cards ....but least of the priorities !

On more practical level for India to play meaningful role in commercial satellite technology , India needs to have capability to put heavy weight satellites to GTO . For that reason upcoming GSLV D5 launch in December and experimental flight of GSLV MK III in June 2014 is more important than current Mars mission .

Mars mission was far behind future plans - it was brought forward due to Political exigencies ....

Anyway without reliable GSLV India can't think of either Manned space flights or GTO capability .

I think ISRO has been prudent in going forward ....its government which pushed for Mars mission .

But even then I feel Mars mission even if it fails will have overall important impact over Indian Space Programme .

In that sense I welcome Mars mission .

But India's greatest priority should by reliable GSLV .

PSLV has done well in its segments of launch vehicles ....but we need to move ahead and develop GSLV successfully .

Way to ISS is a long one .... US , Russia won't admit India until it has proved capability ...may be another decade and half to go ....but by that time ISS itself may be phased out ...

US and Russia should not have excluded China from ISS .

Now there is distinct possibility that ISS may be phased out after 2025 and Only China's space lab may be functional up in the sky ....

India has been testing subsystems for manned space flights in parallel to efforts to develop GSLV ....But India is in no hurry , as it can't afford recurring failures which Space superpowers like US and Russia could endure ...

It's ok to go slow ...and steady !!!

You are the guy that posted India has docking capability, isn't it. India can than build a module, ask others to send it up there, and ask others to shuttle Indians up to the module. this is what japan is doing and they are getting their research done without a man space program.

Docking capability is the most crucial and complicated one among all Space -station related technology !

As far as India is concerned ....it is still early phase ....and still has long way to go ...

India intends to try same at smaller level using microsatellites ....

So there is long way to go in that terms !

As far as space-capsule is concerned multiple subsystems have been tested under SRE-1 , next phase of development with onboard microgravity experiments will be somewhere in 2014-2015 ....

again India is making progress at slow and steady rate ....No urgency in that sense as developing technologies you don't have takes time and it is trial -error - trial- cycle .

So I am quite ok with current pace of developments ....

I was not aware about it though but NASA has sent satellite to Saturn's moon TITAN and also landed there. They started working on it in 1990 completed it in 1997 and landed on TITAN in 2004. Where as we are struggling to send satellite to Mars where as they are working on Mars surface with Mars Rover. We are so far behind. I hope China and India join hands and go to Mars together. India on its own do not have the capability to land man on Mars.

For your information ....NASA has send spacecraft : Voyager in 70's which has crossed the Solar system ....first man made object to do so !

But even then Manned mission to Mars is different game altogether ....it's to and fro ....2 year journey ....to sustain human life for that long in space ....and to have Spacecraft which can be re-launched back from Mars is not easy....

Even NASA has not attempted something like that ....

I don't think India has any reason to think of manned mission to mars in near future ....

Given their rivalry , it is unlikely that China and India can work together in near future ....!

Prospects of India working with US or Russia ....and China and Russia working together are bright ....

Multi-national efforts is way to go as far as space explorations are concerned.....to minimize cots and maximize the benefits ....

But then countries like US, Russia is unlikely to grant parity to new comers like China and India by making them partners ....!!!

.
Ahhhhh so this mission is done by NASA. Just as I thought, it's got nothing to do with ISRO.

Caught red handed lying

One more chinese to amuse PDF member with his typical Chinese Knowledge.

Well come Comedian. Bring Some others like you with you to entertain the forum.

I know about voyager but it didn't do any landing :p any way is there aa documentary about indian mars mission i could watch?

. . . .
I saw one and it said it is a PSLV and satellite will have an elliptical orbit with max distance so far away from mars and a small window of time when it will be close to mars. And will weigh only 35 kgs? Why couldn't they wait and do a GSLV instead? With more payload and more instruments it would have been way much better. Of course it is a mars mission we can be proud of but it seems disappointing. It could have been much more

It is said that Politics makes strange bed-fellows ....this time politics bedded ISRO ....!!!
