On Friday, Greek-American businessman George James Tsunis, who’s been nominated to be the next US ambassador to Norway, called Prime Minister Erna Solberg as president and suggested that the coalition member FRP is "spewing hatred". In addition, he said that Norwegian government has condemned FRP, as he responded to questions from Senator John McCain during a hearing in the Senate
After the scandalous statements, FRP required the U.S. President Barack Obama to apologize Norway and FRP. Progress justice spokesman Jan Arild Ellingsen accused Obama for picking the wrong ambassador candidate.
Tsunis was one of Obama’s biggest financial contributors to his presidential campaign. George J. Tsunis is the Founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Chartwell Hotels, LLC. From 1999 to 2009, Mr. Tsunis was of counsel at Rivkin Radler, LLP and served as partner since 2005. Mr. Tsunis was Special Counsel to the Town of Huntington Committee on Open Space Preservation as well as Counsel to the Dix Hills Water District from 2003 to 2009. From 1998 to 1999, he practiced law at Goldberg & Cohen in Brooklyn, NY. From 1996 to 1998, he was a Legislative Attorney at the New York City Council. Mr. Tsunis received a B.A. from New York University and a J.D. from St. John’s University School of Law.
President Barack Obama nominated him to the US ambassador to Norway. The hearing of the Foreign Committee is part of the process of approving the candidates.
