US Embassy employee shot dead in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: A employee of the US Embassy in Islamabad was gunned down on Sunday.

According to the police, the deceased identified as Iqbal Baig worked for US Drug Enforcement Agency.

The motive for the attack is still unclear and the US Embassy did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

“US Embassy security officials visited the scene of crime,” police officer Khalid Awan, who confirmed Baig’s slaying, said.

Baig belonged to the minority community, Ismaili. At least 45 people, including women and children, belonging to the Ismaili community were killed when around a half a dozen gunmen sprayed them with bullets in execution style inside a bus near Safoora Chowrangi in Karachi on May 13 this year.

This is just disappointing, citizens are being killed in the capital and nothing is being done about it. It's very very shameful for Pakistan at this stage.

Yeah that happened in G-9/1 Islamabad around 2:00 AM.I heard 6-7 pistol fires myself according to some it looked like a dacoity and almost in 15min police and rangers cordon off 3 streets and one primary school but it was too late

these people are harmless and mind their business. never argue with you or try to sell their faith or tell you that you are wrong. most polite and gentle. I pray that the US embassy takes up the matter and doesnt let the police to put the case in a "usual" sectarian killing bin.

Any needless death (in any country) is a tragedy. And if it is a targeted death; then it is a criminal tragedy which should be unforgivable.
