US Drones Trump China Theatrics

He is not but he is much smarter than the so called defence expert who wrote this article. Current non-stealthy subsonic propeller driven UAVs like the reaper will get swatted out of the sky if it trys to attack even 4th gen fighters. Trying to make it sound like they have a chance against the J-20 is completely moronic. Understood?

thats not economical at all, AAA's will do, cheap bullets will shred propeller drones just fine

Gunning a reaper is one thing but something that is 65,000ft in the air like the RQ-4 Global Hawk is quite another

a 20 year old j8 can gun it down without any problems.

gun down something at 65,000 feet? with decoys are u sure?? i dont think so

The aircraft's modular self-defence system includes an AN/ALR 89 radar warning receiver, an on-board jamming system and an ALE 50 towed decoy system.

J 8 has about the same service ceiling.

decoys won't work when you can visually identify it.

Even if the jammer works it can't stop the J 8's autocannon

The airliner-size RQ-4, manufactured by Northrop Grumman, has a long straight wing for efficient, high-altitude flight, and a bulbous nose meant to contain: day- and night-time cameras, a high-fidelity radar, and sensitive receivers for listening in on an enemy’s electromagnetic emissions. A satellite-communications link allows the Global Hawk to feed data to ground stations and, potentially, other aircraft.

Your J8 would be spotted well in advance thats why UAV'S linked ith Sats is the future of modern warfare.

You realize the global hawk is unarmed right? Even if it spots the J 8 it won't be able to retaliate.

Uav's are not used alone in the battlefield but have multiple supporting platforms, if a J8 is found to have taken off from a airstrip other jets would be scrambled to intercept it.

We're in a hypothetical war now? I thought they were just spying.

But your argument is easily used against you as well. In a war China won't be sending a single J 8.

and when those other jets take off then we send in the j-20s(killing other jets is much more economical), i dont see what the problem is.

ps we're assuming this is in china?
