There you go, when it suits PA it can take orders from government and when not, it will refuse. Then you are blaming it on government.

I am blaming the inaction on the drone issue on the government, since, for reasons already mentioned, the Army is no position to oppose the government on that particular issue.

On the NW operation issue, while I do think that the PA does not want to conduct an operation there for various reasons, the PPP Government is not really that keen on it either, given domestic opposition to such an operation and the potential terrorist and refugee backlash and increased need for resources being diverted to the military to fund such an operation.

If you are saying government can take decision it will follow, there should be no riders. Both are linked, government can work with US to stop drone strikes if it assures it is acting on it soil.

The PA will follow if the PPP government decides to launch an operation in NW, no matter what, but the PA will try its best to convince the GoP to not issue any such orders by pointing out the complications that will ensue with such an operation. As I mentioned above, the PPP is not really enthusiastic about a NW operation either, given the domestic repercussions.

Your understanding of what i said is really what's BS. Dude, the fact that there are terrorists on Pakistani soil, that PA refuses to target and hence drones have to , is the real issue.. Now if you are not able to control the terrorists operating on your soil, and an external entity has to do that to protect it self, then you can not dictate to that entity on how you want it to operate. Then you have to live with the outcome of that entity's action .. In short, either handle your terrorists yourself, or else, live with the consequences...

It cannot be questioned the sacrifices and efforts made by Pakistan to remove these terrorists in the past. One doesn't have to look far back in history for confirmation of this.

It can surely be and with every passing day, more and more people are questioning the same..

The frequency of drone attacks seems to have increased conveniently due to the breakdown of relations recently. It seems to be a tool to exert pressure on the Pakistan government to "play ball" and bow to the demands put on them

On the other hand, a view is that American govt, that was keeping a light hand on the drones with the hope of convincing Pakistani govt to handle the problems on its own soil, is now realizing the folly of that hope and has more or less given up on salvaging that relationship and is going at it alone..

Innocent people are being used as cannon fodder and its shameful that its continuing.

Agree one hundred percent.. Pakistan has failed in protecting its citizens from the terrorists and now from the repercussions of allowing these terrorists to exist within Pakistan, .. The ultimate responsibility of protecting its citizens resides with Pakistani establishment..

If the Americans believe this type of pressure will work - they are sadly mistaken. Quite the contrary - more hatred is being created as we speak.

I personally believe that Americans have now given up on the relationship and are now going at it alone.. Same is reflected in the 1st ever criticism of Pakistan by the state dept of USA on the Dr Afridi issue..

We will send more people to Mumbai, if you can't stop them, it reflects on your internal security!

Drone strike kills four militants in North Waziristan – The Express Tribune

NORTH WAZIRISTAN: A US drone strike killed four suspected militants in North Waziristan on Monday evening, Express News reported.

The strike targeted a militant vehicle in Pai Khel village of the Datta Khel district, 30 kilometres (18 miles) west of Miranshah, the main town in North Waziristan. The drone had fired two missiles at a vehicle killing four militants, a security official told AFP.

Earlier on Monday, at least eight militants were killed when a US drone launched a missile attack in Mir Ali sub-division of North Waziristan Agency, security officials said on Monday.The first attack took place in the Esokhel sub-division of Mir Ali when a US drone launched four missiles on a house which was under construction. Six militants, including five foreigners were killed.

“The house was razed to the ground,” officials added.

MIRANSHAH: Twelve people were killed and five others injured in two separate US drone attacks in Mir Ali and Dattakhel areas of the North Waziristan tribal region on Monday, tribal sources said.

Sources said the drones carried out the first attack in Hassukhel village of Mir Ali subdivision and targeted a house. Villagers said the drones fired 10 missiles and killed seven people. “The drone first fired two missiles at the house and killed four people and injured five others. Those living in an adjacent house panicked after the missile strikes and started fleeing towards the nearby fields. The drones then started firing missiles at them and targeted everyone running in the fields,” a local tribesman told The News from Hassukhel village, located about 25 kilometers east of Miranshah, the headquarters of North Waziristan.

He said the house was located close to the mosque which had been attacked by a drone last week, killing 10 worshipers. The tribesman said bodies of the slain men were later retrieved but were mutilated beyond recognition.

The injured were shifted to the main hospital in Mir Ali area where they were stated to be in critical condition.Government officials based in the area said that 10 US spy planes took part in the attack in Mir Ali. “I have not seen drones in such a large number in the past during one attack. Mostly two or four spy planes take part in the attack here,” the official said. Later in the night, five more people were killed when a pilotless plane fired two missiles at a car and a house in Deegan village of Dattakhel area.

Villagers in Deegan said five men traveling in the car were killed in the attack. “Their bodies were unrecognizsable. Only body pieces of the slain men were retrieved and put in plastic bags for burial,” a villager told The News from Deegan on phone. He said a nearby house was also damaged in the attack, but its inmates remained safe.

US drone strike kills 15 in North Waziristan: Officials

MIRANSHAH: Rockets fired from a US drone killed 15 people in northwest Pakistan on Monday, intelligence officials said, an attack likely to add to tensions between Washington and Islamabad amid a standoff over Nato supply routes to Afghanistan.

The strike, the third in three days, targeted a militant hideout in the Hesokhel village of the North Waziristan, officials said.

It brought the death toll from drone attacks in Pakistan in the past three days to 27. Pilotless US drones hit targets in the South Waziristan tribal region on Saturday and Sunday.

The United States and Pakistan are deadlocked in difficult negotiations for the re-opening of overland supply routes to Nato forces in Afghanistan. No breakthrough is in sight.

Islamabad blocked the routes in November 2011 after 24 Pakistani soldiers were killed by cross-border “friendly fire” from Nato aircraft.

The supply lines through Pakistan are considered vital to the planned withdrawal of most foreign combat troops from Afghanistan before the end of 2014.

The Pakistan government says the CIA drone campaign fuels anti-American sentiment in the country, and is counterproductive because of collateral damage.

US officials, however, say such strikes by the remotely piloted aircraft are highly effective against militants and are an important weapon in war against militancy.

MIRANSHAH: A US drone attack killed at least three militants early Thursday in Pakistan’s northwestern tribal region, known as a hotbed of Taliban and Al-Qaeda militants, security officials said.

The drone fired two missiles on a building in the central market of Miranshah, the main town in North Waziristan near the Afghan border, Pakistani officials said.

“A US drone fired two missiles on the first floor of a shop in the main market and at least three militants were killed,” a senior official told AFP.

Pakistan spy chief to discuss drones in US


ISLAMABAD: Pakistan's spymaster will next week visit the United States to resume talks on intelligence cooperation and drone strikes, the thorniest aspect of Pakistani-US relations, an official said on Wednesday. It is the first time in a year the head of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) flies to Washington, signalling a thaw in relations beset by crisis since US troops found and killed Osama bin Laden in Pakistan in May 2011. Lieutenant General Zaheerul Islam, who was appointed in March, will hold talks with CIA director David Petraeus on counter-terror cooperation and intelligence sharing, a senior Pakistani security official told AFP. But the differences and intractability on both sides highlight the tensions of the fractured anti-terror alliance, despite Islamabad's decision to end a seven-month blockade on NATO supplies for Afghanistan. Pakistan will now have to ask an Israeli to evaluate its complaints about drone strikes. The Counter-Terrorism Committee of the U.N. Security Council, the intelligence arm of UNSCR 1373, just appointed an Israeli as its legal chief last week. As I've pointed out before (though the U.S. government won't admit it) UNSCR 1373 is a key justification in international law for non-Pakistani military strikes against terrorists in "Pakistani" territory.

Last month, a US drone strike on a compound in North Waziristan killed 12 suspected militants.
