SEOUL: Two nuclear-capable US B-2 stealth bombers flew what the US military described as "deterrence" missions over South Korea on Thursday, in a move sure to further inflame tensions with the North.

The two planes, flying out of Whiteman Air Force base in Missouri, flew the 13,000 mile round-trip in a "single continuous mission," dropping dummy ordnance on a target range in the South, the US military said in a press release.

"This .... demonstrates the United States' ability to conduct long range, precision strikes quickly and at will," the statement said.

The two bombers were participating in an ongoing South Korea-US joint military exercise that has infuriated North Korea and prompted threats from Pyongyang to unleash an "all out war" backed by nuclear weapons.

The use of stealth fighters will further inflame tensions, given that the North was already incensed by the participation of B-52 bombers in the exercise.

"The B-2 bomber is an important element of America's enduring and robust extended deterrence capability in the Asia-Pacific region," the US statement said.

In a telephone call with his South Korean counterpart Thursday, US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel had stressed that all US military capability would be extended to the South, including "the nuclear umbrella, conventional strike means and missile defence."

True. They are too busy with being starved for even halfway decent food to be scared.

Actually, i don't even know if there are gonna be any "North Korean" to scare with, god knows they may all be dead from starvation already, with the News Censorship in North Korean government and their intent to use Photoshop, you will never know.

USA: Home delivering peace for years! order Peace* from Uncle Sam, get Democracy* for Free!!

Can the U.S. afford to bomb North Korea?

If the NK fire the first bullet, then why cant the US?

Between, If there is a war between NK and SK... India should provide a Dozen Brahmos to test in real war scenario to SK!!

True. They are too busy with being starved for even halfway decent food to be scared.

One question to American.... Whether China will come to NK rescue this time???

Probably not. Back when in the immediate aftermath of WW II, China had no vested interests in the rest of the world. China could afford to be as belligerent and warlike as necessary. Not so today when China have much interests, financial and else, from the Americas to Africa. That is strength as well as vulnerabilities.

These B-2 overflights were not for North Korea but more for China. That is a warning that there could be worse consequences if China were to get involved in a potential shooting fight between the Koreas this time around. This fight will be between North Korea and the South Korea and US alliance. If China does not want North Korea to lose, which would inevitably mean the doom of North Korea, then China had better yank the leash on that chubby-@$$ punk in Pyongyang.

China will comply to our wishes.

I think China will have few advantages if the NK actually start the war

1. NK will engage SK , Japan and US. That won't be a problem for China.
2. NK losing war - one minus nutcase from border is always a good thing.
3. But suppose if NK can hit few DECENT targets ( that can easily be aided without actual involvement ) before going down then its always a advantage China.
