KARACHI: If excitement knew no bounds, it would be that of the employees of the US Consulate who experienced their first ride on a rickshaw in Karachi.

The US Consulate in Karachi released a video on their Facebook page to share their first experience of riding a rickshaw, a common and colourful mode of transportation in Pakistan.

The video shows four US Consulate employees put the rickshaw to the test, all of whom were intrigued by the colourful truck art adorned on the three-wheeler.

“This might be the coolest rickshaw I have ever seen,” said one employee as she found a sticker of a dragon which she likened to Game of Thrones.

Nervous about riding the rickshaw one of them adds that “I think it’s similar to the one time I went sky diving.”

The video then follows the four employees riding the rickshaw around Karachi and their excitement is visible as they cheer amid the loud sounds of the vehicle.

Commenting on the practicality of the three-wheeler, an employee suggests that it is even better than a smart car because it can be parked anywhere, while another added that “we need to have Uber tuk-tuks in the US.”


The rickshaw made dreams come true as one employee confirmed that “this is actually kind of a dream come true.”

The employees were then given the chance to put the rickshaw to the test and they each took turns driving the colourful vehicle.

The US consulate, after the ambassador of the US is the second highest ranking official representing the US on the ground in Pakistan.

Glad to see current Pakistani government's efforts in getting rid of crimes in Karachi, where high level diplomats can even go out in Rikshaws now and enjoy the city. The US is reaching out to the hearts and souls of their Pakistani friends. This is an excellent PR campaign.

Yea, you are right. It may be second level officers. But despite that fact, this is a great effort to connect with others. Specially people in Pakistan. Pakistan is a growing economy and there is significant growing business interest among many countries. They are today where India was in 1995. China and Russia are trying to be very involved there.

So these small things go a long way to show goodwill and friendship to others. We've had a 70 year old relationship with them, what was missing was some people to people integration. Now that their future looks bright, the US businesses should expand within Pakistan and help it grow and be more successful.

Well thats a shame, considering that the Rickshaw had a turbocharged engine, Brembo brakes, ZF gearbox, Bluetooth, Wifi, Satellite Broadband, Bose sound system, Airbags and seat belts put in.
