Visiting US representative warns of dependence on China

By Joseph Yeh--A visiting United States congresswoman yesterday expressed concern over Taiwan's over-reliance on China economically, saying the dependence may come at the expense of Taiwanese interests.

“I believe the relations between Taiwan and China are for the Taiwanese to decide,” said Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, the chairwoman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, in Taipei.

Ros-Lehtinen however said she was worried that if Taiwan continues to economically engage with the mainland, the island could be forced to “sacrifice a lot” in order to maintain such relations.

The chairwoman said that Beijing is increasingly using military intimidation against Taiwan, and that the communist country has repeatedly ignored the rule of law, democracy and separation of powers, as well as censored the Internet.

These democratic values, however, are shared by Taiwan and the U.S., she added.

With increasingly closer economic engagements between the two side of the Strait, the U.S. politician warned that Taiwan “may run the risk of sacrificing these principles that have set you apart from many neighboring countries in Asia” just in the name of economic gain.

lol, don't give us nonsense.

Taiwan has a pro PRC leader. Anyone can do research.
The pro-PRC party the Kuomintang is in power in Taiwan.

Hillary Clinton is just afraid that USA is losing it's influence in the world.

It is you who need to educate.

There is no such thing as a pro-PROC party in Taiwan; it is the status quo party and the independence party in Taiwan.

Why can't you admit you're Taiwanese and be done with it? Instead of pretending to be Korean?

He he he. Lee Teng Hui, the driving force behind Taiwan independence was interviewed a few days ago told Taiwanese not to talk about independence. The time has already gone.

No question that Taiwan the ROChina would like very much to rely on USA. Unfortunately USA is unreliable to the people of ROChina. So ROChina has to rely on PRChina. (BTW, nobody would rely on S Korea, that‘s for sure: how could a country with bird poo size and breeds lots of psychosis be reliable?.)

It looks that the fact is not only a pain in the fat @ss of the US congresswoman, but also in the pity @ss of the “Korean”.

In fact I warn my self on daily basis don’t rely too much on food. Relying too much on food worries me. Unfortunately I have to rely on food.

ROChina finds plenty of food in PRChina. Millions of ROChina citizens now happily live in PRChina with their families. When voting season comes, rumor goes that PRChina gives bonus to those who vote pro-PRChina. LOL!

After all, money talks.

the US is getting really desperate now, they can feel our power and influence all around the world.

our markets, our manufacturing, our investments, our finance, the growing role of our currency, etc.

our military modernization.

our financial aid, medical aid, food aid, etc

our continuing technological self sufficiency in many industries and thus our ability to transfer that tech, both civilian and military to anyone we want.

all these things put together are rattling the american cage.
i love it.

Unfortunately USA is unreliable to the people of ROChina.
Surely more reliable than the People's Republic.

ROChina finds plenty of food in PRChina.
Taiwan don't import food from China; they import food from the West.

Millions of ROChina citizens now happily live in PRChina with their families.
As Foxconn and other Taiwanese factory managers, controlling the lives of millions of Chinese workers and their families.

the US is getting really desperate now, they can feel our power and influence all around the world.
Actually the US influence is increasing in Asia-Pacific, as countries from Vietnam to Philippines to Palau all beg for US help against the Chinese, demanding military alliances and aid.

Timing couldn't haven been better for the US to achieve a military hegemony, all thanks to China's premature belligerence.

A US congresswoman telling Taiwainese to mind their relationship with mainland? I think a united China or a friendly relationship across the straits is a nightmare for the neocons.

Signs of closer relationship:-
President Ma of Taiwain ruling party is seeking "One China, Two Areas".
Ex-President Teng of the opposition party is urging his supporters to drop "Taiwan Independence" movement, saying it is pointless.
