US - China Cold war begins, Will India join?

Will US be able to spend at currently level for another century???

I do not think so. Spending like this won't be sustainable.

US is already deep into financial trouble.
Have to agree on this The USA will remain the sole superpower for time to come and China won't spend as much as it.

"For time to come" does not mean for another century.

BTW, the main message is that China will not overspend like US does. it also means that China has no interest in maintaining that many bases, armies, fleets and etc like US does.

Thank you for a level headed reply. Best of luck for China on their journey to Super Powerdom, but until your spending cannot match US i don't see you reaching that position.

Thats my personal estimate until some miracle happens. If somebody told in 1901 British Empire will collapse in 50 years time and US will become the dominant power almost all would have laughed, even Americans..but it happened mainly thanks to WW2.

I don't see US is overspending, they are only spending whatever it needs to keep their hold on power throughout the world which also includes soft tactics like the billions given to countries like Israel, Egypt, Pakistan, Jordan etc. as military and economic aid.

Also if China plans to follow the bolded part, she will never become Super Power. I don't recall any Super Power who reached that position without their armed forces. May be you plan to be the first.

Its amusing to see some people actually believe that US economy will never recover..The military industrial might of America is just too much for any country or, a group of countries to handle.

OT: Its not in India's interest to join any alliance. We never had and we never will.

India Urged Again To Pursue Non-Alignment

Non-alignment was and is a logical, rational and ethical response to this polarisation and pervasive iniquity. Non-alignment didn't mean passive neutrality, but the active pursuit of options that might reform the world by accelerating decolonisation, reducing inequality and expanding space for the self-reliant development of the former colonies. Third World countries that chose to align with the Western bloc turned into Banana Republics or lost out on both democratisation and development and became anaemically dependent on the West.

High sounding words, you can start by decolonizing Kashmir and North East states and stop meddling in neighbor countries. India is no saint, it is just another mean and nasty example of "power corrupts" just due to its size, even if it is still hungry and poor.

India is not going to take sides, because it wants others to fight and exhaust themselves.

USA and China should take note of this attitude. Eventually India dreams to take on both China and USA and surpass both, even if they have to wait a century for it. This is the real reason why we see so much arrogance, although this attitude has little connection with present day reality.

by 1900, actually, even years before that, Germany already surpass Britain in GDP, and U.S.'s GDP is also much more than Britain already. Militarily, Germany and U.S. had already become very strong as well. Germany had defeated France in Europe and U.S. has defeated Spain in Asia, defeated indians in its own land, defeated the mexicans down south and sdefeated the japs in Asia. Through purchase and war, U.S. has already controlled from west coast to east coast throughout in North America. The so-called British empire is also going down hill.

Those then who still believed the glory of british empire would be long-lasting were simply too stupid to see the end coming, just like those idiots who believe the so-called american empire will last forever.

You totally ignored 2nd world war and the pressure afterwards from the Americans that colonialism is a thing of the past. This was most evident during the UK-French excursion into Suez in the 50's.

Now, regarding China, India and superpower status.
I dont think there's enough resources/customers/clean air on this planet to make 2 billion+ of you have the same standard as 800 million of us have. This is just personal opinion ofcourse......

.
that's you Indians perspective cause you had been under western colonial rule for too long, but the world doesnt share your mentality.

that's right

US was not able to do trade with British colonies and British empire was vast

so after WW2 US forced all European nations to abandon colonies and gave economic aid

domestic pressure in Europe also played role as Europeans were not ready to sacrifice further for sake of colonies

Well one must know that the US is a true blue water navy and China is still aspiring to become one. So the US will chose its battles and not fight China's battles.

The best way it can be done is by harassing the shipping lanes that China is dependent on to force them to bring in convoys to protect their surface ships ad that is when US will hunt down the major capability and thin out Chinese forces before pouncing on them from air. China till date dosent have the capability to look at US eye to eye in the Naval scenario.

OT:- Who in India cares till they can provided jobs to all people and food and clothing...'Cold War' is a forte of developed nations and failing nations not a developing one like India.

India had start to decolourize Kashmir and North eastern states for the sake of US-China cold war :yahoo:
India will become super power on its own terms not by encouraging US and China to fight.

In the face off between US and China, i think, it is critical to see how Russia (india's cherished ally) responds. It is positioned as the kingmaker and is likely to be courted by all.

If it chooses to play a subservient role, in China's rise - it could spell trouble for Indian aspirations of being able to compete with the Chinese. It would also leave little legroom for India in international diplomacy. On the other hand, if Russia advocates for a multipolar world, it would make India's choice of non-alignment a lot easier and profitable.

Meanwhile, india also needs to build closer ties with the china-wary grouping of nations. For now, India does not have the wherewithall to face up to China alone.

India, irrespective of who it aligns itself with, can offer enough advantages for the ally to overlook the concerns of petite, irrelavant nations.

Peace be with you, my brother.

I guess you are referring to Bangladesh as a petite irrelevant nation. Compared to India or China Bangladesh is definitely small, so is Vietnam or Philippines or Japan or South Korea and most of the ASEAN states, but these small nations if they can unite in a regional union, then they no longer remain irrelevant, as these small nations East and South of India and China has a population of more than a billion, more landmass and resources than India and comparable to that of China.

It is in India's interests to align with US. Here is why.

1. U.S in the recent times have proved how it can be a powerful ally especially by bringing India out of nuclear isolation. It is in India's interest to take advantage of a powerful ally in U.S for other global issues as well.
2. NAM was useless as was seen during the 1962 war when the countries in NAM gave a lip service and was "non-aligned" - true to the name.Even in 1965, NAM provided little support to India.
2. 1965 war was stalemate as we never had the support of super power.
3. 1971 - India gave a decisive blow to Pakistan as India had signed a treaty with USSR few months before the war. If not, USSR would have kept quiet and India would have called for a cease fire fearing the US carrier group near India. In short, India was decisive in war only after it aligned with a super power.
4. Imagine a quick strike by China - Is India ready now to push back Chinese troops as India does not have the firepower in the Indo-China border. If India is aligned with US, there is an assured weapons support as seen during the 1962 war though it was late.
5. Pakistan will be China's ally going forward and if there is an Indo-Pakistan conventional war, India need to be cognizant of China opening another front. If U.S is an ally, China will think twice about opening another front.
6. The reason for 5 holds good for Chinese aggression as well.(with no Pakistan participation).
7. Alignment with US is for economy reasons as well. SCO or ASEAN+3 will be dominated by China and many a time, it may not be in the best interests of India. Whereas TPP is an anti-Chinese trade group which is fostered by US. Japan may join in future. Likewise Korea will join TPP in future. It is in India's interests to join any of these trade groups and what best than TPP.

Anyone thinking that Russia will be a long term partner of India based on previous experience, Russia is going to be a partner of China to offset US/western influence. In future, Russia may not standby India.
