US Accuses Pakistan of Altering Missiles - NYT

The problem in being too complacent is that the congressmen are answerable to the public they serve. Media reports from anonymous and confidential sources, of this magnitude can really be made to sell any story and if the public buys it, the congressman would act on it.

So at the very least we should be on the offensive against yellow journalists, even if its in famous papers such as the NYT. Either put up or shut up.

True dat.

I still doubt the average American voter will get worked up about Pakistan to write to his/her congressperson. They are probably more worried about their job, credit cards, mortgage, ...

notice the US govt. felt no need for such a statement.

Haqqani urges U.S. media to halt hurling blames on Pakistan

Updated at: 0920 PST, Sunday, August 30, 2009
WASHINGTON: Pakistan’s Ambassador in U.S., Hussain Haqqani has termed a U.S newspaper report, alleging Pakistani engineers have upgraded the range of U.S.- made Harpoon missile earlier given to Pakistan and test fired, baseless and incorrect.

Talking to Geo News Hussain Haqqani said that such news reports were designed to target and scuttle the U.S. Congress lawmaking process underway for sanctioning aid to Pakistan.

He urged upon the U.S. media to halt hurling blames on Pakistan and help it in war against terror. He said that the frequent campaign of labeling blames on Pakistan in U.S. media only meant for disgracing Pakistan, but despite all the conspiracies Pakistan would continue aligning with the U.S. in war against terrorism

A caveat to that Muse - while the US Govt. has not commented on the report yet, the US ambassador to Pakistan, Anne Patterson, and Hollbrooke, have complained about the Pakistani media pushing a anti-US agenda.

This is absolute hog wash!!!

Few days ago a news was in circulation that India is going to launch a campaign to malign Pakistan and here we go. With the help of it's friends, India has started the campaign.

The sole purpose of this article is to atleast delay the US aid for Pakistan.

Lets look at the authors of this report:

David E. Sanger : His investigation of Dr. AQ Khan became the core of "Nuclear Jihad: Can Terrorists Get the Bomb?. Mr. Sanger is a pro India and Pro Israel Jew whose aim is to distort the image if Muslim world.

Eric Schmitt: Another Pro Israel and Pro India journalist (possibly Jewish). Almost 80% of his articles in recent times are about Pakistan and guess what majority filled with negative portray of Pakistan.

The Govt. of Pakistan should take legal action against the NYT.

As far as India is concerned, they should pay attention to the improvement of their own weapon platforms.

I wrote and called my representative asking him to vote no on any aid to Pakistan. With the economy doing poorly and people losing jobs, sending aid to Pakistan, a country who supports terrorism is a bad idea.

A country that support terrorism? Are you kidding me?

Well, thats teh average american opinion as they can't win war in Afghanistan so blame Pakistan.

and the Aid bill was passed, why??? next time do ask your representative about it, don't vote for him again

Democrats have passed Aid bill for Pakistan (for the first time in US history) that shows how desperate they are. It will be history in making in US if military Aid or US weapons come to Pakistan through Democrats :azn:

I contacted my two Senators (Webb and Warner) and my Congresswoman, and asked them to get the both civilian and military aid to Pakistan, ASAP, with minimal restrictions. I asked them to ignore the pleadings of India, as India is selfishly biased against the US assisting Pakistan. So, I hope I canceled AirForcePilot out, at least....

WOW, is that true truthseeker?

If so, good on ya mate.

Here in Englad, contacting local Mps in order to favour a motion in the "mother of all" parliments is almost unheard of.

Good on you. Along with your tax dollar you spewed out some of mine too. Can you please ask them to keep an oversight on its use as well? Aid is good as long as it doesnt serve to harm somebody else.

Yes, I did. I e-mailed them, which is very easy to do now that they have their e-mail correspondence addresses on-line. You just have to go the the Senate or House sites and select your representative's page to do it. To be effective you can't be anonymous since they want to see that you are really living in their vote district and that you are a real potential voter for them. Their office staff tends to characterize one's correspondence as "for" or "against" on a given issue and gives their Congressperson or Senator a running tally of what their constituents are saying. So my voice is just one of many but it is important to do it nonetheless to try to help shift the tally to "for" aid to Pakistan in this case. They definitely do pay attention to bonafide constituent messages.

Then please also tell them to settle all accounts owed Pakistan for reimbursements for support to coalition troops in Afghanistan (over a billion and a half I think at last check) cancel that agreement for obtaining support from a 'country supporting terrorism', and route your supplies from elsewhere.

Leave us alone, and you and the Pashtun in Afghanistan can duke it out on your own.

No country in the world suffered as much as Pakistan did because of terrorists. Do you think Pakistan likes burrying our brave martyred soldiers who died fighting against terrorists? Do you think Pakistan likes seeing our innocent citizens being killed in suicide bombings?

Its people like you who give Americans the stereotype of being arrogant and ignorant, but we know most Americans are not like you. Most Americans are good-hearted intelligent people.

Look at history. United States and Pakistan have been close allies and good friends ever since Pakistan got its independence on 1947, we were allies and friends long before US and India became friends. India was backing the Soviet Union while Pakistan was on the side of U.S. in fighting the Soviets. Now we are on the side of U.S. in fighting terrorists.

You dont know anything about Pakistan.

Agnostic, you make me laugh. We owe Pakistan nothing. If you are so concerned about Pakistan, why don't you get up off your fat a$$ and go to Pakistan if you like it better that America. Nobody is forcing you to stay here and we sure don't want you here with your anti-American attitude.
