Hi All,:pdf:

Hope you are doing well. I have a query regarding 'Join Army as Soldier' and then get Commission and other promotions as time passes.
My younger brother have Intermediate (Commerce) and have become 23 years old (on 15th May) is applying for Soldier in Army. He got to know from some Army Personnel at recruitment center that Soldiers can also get Commissioned if they pass Intermediate exam (1 year duration by Army) during their Soldiers training from Army and then move for Commissioned.
I want to know is that really practical approach? I heard Soldiers life is very tough and they have fixed times for all of their activities including lunch/sleep/duty etc and other reason for non-studying is their frequent postings to different places. That's why they don't get much chance to study and remain on same Soldier position.

Please guide me. It's very urgent because just 2/3 days remaining to finalize process.

Regards,
Athar Abbas

no Army personnel there to reply on that thread ???

Bad choice let him finish his studies and them join PMA , if he joins the Army as a soldier and then joins OTS he will hardly move up to a Col. There is a big difference between PMA graduate and OTS. It would be better for him to finish his studies and then join PMA directly. After graduating he will have more than 20 fields to join.

MuradK Sir, there is no more OTS now, a soldier who wants to get commissioned would be required to go through the regular ISSB and if he makes it through he would be treated and tasked as any other officer. So no more SVS and OTS is there in the Army now, yes officers from the older courses (who got their commission from OTS or joined the military through SVS) are still serving but no more intake is there in these cadres now.

As for the query by ather: why would he join th soldiers' cadre if your brother wants to get commission? Let him complete his studies and then apply for the regular commission.

As for your concern regarding the soldier's life and the opportunity to become an officer is concerned, yes they can also apply for commission any time. They are encouraged and given requisite training and grooming. For a soldier who is matric, would require to get through FSc or FA, again the opportunity is provided by the Army, but this NOT at all logical and feasible approach if someone wants to join the Army as an Officer. Better complete the studies and apply for some long course.

i hope that helps.

Thankyou for correcting me. I don't want to give any one bad advice. Like you said what is the hurry complete the studies and apply for PMA.
I know in PAF they are a little reluctant giving the Airmen Comm, and after that he will aways be called BLPC max you can go is Wing Cmd if you are very good.
There is only one officer in the history of PAF who was a Dhobii and decided to join PAF as a Airmen and later became officer and went upto the rank of Gp Capt.

Is true OTS was started cuz of PA was short of officers ?...
(well someone told me idea behind OTS, share it later...very interesting though)...

MuradK,

That is what dreams are made of---may I ask the name of that blessed officer?

i know a unit whose CO was a NCO in the same unit, the 2i/c was a sepoy in another unit and one of the major in that unit was an Airian (ex PAF Airman). Three Officers who were actually came up from scratch. i am not sure about the 2i/c but the CO and that major were brilliant officers, the CO made a Colonel recently.

Thanks Muradk and Enigma for your detail replies and guidance.

I agree what you both said that first complete education and then apply for Officer rank. As far as I got information from
joinpakarmy.gov.pk/ad_124.php
124 PMA Long Course requirement is Intermediate with (50% and 23 years age) for civilians. It means now it's no more for him as he's more than 23 now. So, what OTHER OPTIONS he can have in future to join Army if completes his Graduation (like B.Com) and to be more extent (like M.Com/MBA)?

He's very keen to join Army and it's very difficult for me to stop him to join on lower ranks and unless I can give him surety that he can do the same in future with better ranks if gets some higher qualifications now...

Thanks,
Athar Abbas

If he has crossed the age there is no way he can jon the Army now, unless he manages as a soldier and appear while he serve as the age limit for them is 25, over that and it is gone.

BTW, if he was such a die hard for the military why didnt he apply earlier? Wondering.
