Wah, wah, what an explanation! It was handled poorly right from the very beginning; allowing them to take off from Indian soil was a blunder. Allowing the media to dictate terms by getting the relatives to come create a circus on prime time tv was another blunder. Having the foreign minister accompany terrorists in the same plane has no real parallel of its kind. The terrorists released included Masood Azhar who went to create the Jaish-e-Mohammed which was responsible for the loss of many Indian lives & Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh who was responsible for killing the WSJ reporter Daniel Pearl. Yeah, brilliant it was not, though the government simply did not have much of a choice.

As for no deaths, that's not quite correct. A man on his honeymoon was killed in the very beginning of the hijack(not the government's doing btw). Surrendering always can guarantee no/few deaths, are you suggesting surrender as a routine?

The BJP needs to focus its attention on gathering minority support, which by the way....is no joke. Minority support can never be acquired by feilding candidates such as Modi. However, feilding the more 'subtle' candidates like Mrs. Sushama or Mr. Jaitley would improve BJP's chances. Christian/Muslim population are rather influential and financially strong (especially down south).

BJP already has strong presence in all Southern States excluding Kerala and they are not winning in Kerala due to Hindus

The Hindu vote is a very lucrative prize. Unfortunately, as someone else pointed it out earlier, it is not focused on any single party. My statement holds true for all states. I can tell you being Syrian Christians, we normally keep off the BJP camp. The only two real options to us are the communists or the Kerala Congress.

It is however, heartening to see visible shift in BJP's policy of hindu appeasement. Also, If you notice, in all states; there is a huge scramble by parties to acquire minority votes since minority votes are usually a package deal. You have to realize , India is home to a multitude of religions and cultures. You simply cannot hope to win by endorsing a very narrow point of view and/or community.
