The UPA today listed out the successful test firing of 5000 km-range Agni-5 missile, induction of nuclear-powered submarine INS Chakra, implementation of phase-II of coastal security scheme and border infrastructure as its achievements in defence sector.

"DRDO successfully test fired the indigenously developed Agni-V Long Range Ballistic Missile with a range of 5,000 km and the capability to carry various forms of payloads, taking India into a select club of countries in the world," the UPA's report card to the people on the completion of three years in office said.

The nuclear-powered attack submarine INS Chakra was inducted into the Indian Navy on April 4, it said.

Other major milestones during the year included launch of Agni-IV missile and the surface-to-surface tactical battlefield missile Prithvi-II, and induction of the Light Combat Aircraft Tejas into the Indian Air Force, the report said.

It also mentioned the first fully modified aircraft for the indigenously developed Indian Airborne Early Warning and Control System which took to the skies in December 2011.

On coastal security, it said, "Phase-II of the Coastal Security Scheme has been launched with an outlay of Rs 1579 crore. It aims to add another 131 Coastal Police Stations, 60 Jetties, 180 Patrolling Boats, 10 large Vessels for A&N Islands along with other policing infrastructure in coastal States/Union Territories."

For strengthening the border infrastructure, construction of 2760 km of fencing, 3,605 km of border roads and 1,292 km of floodlighting have been completed along the Indo-Bangladesh border, the report said.

"31 additional border out posts have been added on the Indo-Bangladesh and the Indo-Pakistan borders during the current year taking the total number of outposts to 1,442," it said.

During 2011-12, an amount of Rs 1,003 crore has been released to border States under the Border Area Development Programme, said the report.

Agni 5 is achievement of scientists not UPA.
INS Chakra agreement for lease was signed during NDA.
And on the coastal security front everything they have done was in response to 26/11, it was not a proactive move.

.
Hope They don't Claim Shivalik Class Frigates and Kolkata Class Destroyers as their Achievement.

Why don't they claim for GSLV failure, 26/11, Chinese incursions, Hafeez Saeed????

Hi I am anew member and this is my first rebut....

The govt. was not definitely demonstrating the negatives in the achievement list....naturally they would show the achievements.

And those who think the defense sector achievements are not due to govt. then which other achievements they can own!!! If the economy does better Private sector would be applauded, if the infrastructure sector does well the engineers would be given accolade....if we do good in foreign policy then the counterpart's generosity takes all the credit.

This is unfair...and without any thinking.

I was of the opinion that if the govt. is fast enough to claim it's achievement than it should also be ready for the negatives it has created in the process. If the economy is doing good than they are certainly achievement of govt. policies & i would have been ok with that if it was UPA-I but in UPA-II economy is in total doldrums no doubt & govt. is not in position to claim victory there because they already have enough blood on there hand.

Think....is it the platform to dig their own grave, nobody would do that in the context of the event. Second, you have all praise for UPA I, but the so called 2G scam happened in that tenure.....all the other so called "CAG reported scams" has happened when the corporate were doing great and Indian Economy was rubbing shoulder with other economies at Davos. We were also rejoicing. Now, when this govt. has not done any scam in this tenure, how can you still love UPA I and dislike UPA II? Don't you think some thought needs to go in that direction.

I just said economically (in UPA-I) since we were growing by 9% for three years consecutively, who said scam was not a dark spot on UPA-I also if you see in UPA-II there has been really a policy paralysis as all the experts have been calling for long.

pls don't make this one on one issue, what we have to think about is how India will come again to 9% growth (maybe even double digit)....

Bring economy back to 9% is no easy task as you think.China who was cruising at 10% is now doing the same at 8.1% this year owing to weak demand in Europe. India was cruising at 9% so...it has to reduce to a lower vale. And those who are chanting policy paralysis they want Excise duty to be reduced to 8% what was they served in 2008 to tide over recession in the USA. This time another group also have joined them raising tax retrospectivity. Why should not be Vodafone be taxed as per law. They are being taxed and so many in corporate sector are up in arm on behalf of Vodafone. What Policy change was made in 2008 and how India was doing better in that time. Do Tata Steel want money from FDI retail? It is ridiculous to hide behind FDI retail or Insurance bill.
