Up to 700 Ukrainian servicemen may be held captive in Chechnya| Ukrinform
KYIV, May 21 /Ukrinform/. According to different data, from 400 to 700 Ukrainian citizens, captured during the fighting in Donbas, may be held in Chechnya or Adygea federal subjects of Russia.
This has been reported by the Open Russia NGO.
Relatives of missing Ukrainian soldiers say that soldiers themselves or unknown people have called them from phones on roaming in Russia, namely from Chechnya and Adygeya. Some relatives of the missing persons were offered by unknown persons by telephone or via the volunteers to return a prisoner for a large ransom. Some callers talked with an Eastern accent. The unknown interlocutors said that "your relatives have been sold into slavery, and you will never see them again."
Some human rights activists from Russia have also called the relatives and reported that they had found Ukrainian servicemen in Russian prison.
Earlier, the representative of Ukraine in the Trilateral Contact Group to solve situation in Donbas, Leonid Kuchma noted that 1460 Ukrainians have been considered missing and nearly four hundred are in captivity.
