Gujrati or Kutchi (I assume you spoke Kutchi) are Indian languages. However Urdu is arguably even more Indian then Kutchi. Whereas Gujrati is a window to small Indian state of Gujrat but Urdu is a window to all of India. Language is a vehicle for culture and that is what makes it important.

Languages change and evolve. China for example distinguishes its North from the South using Mandarin / Cantonese.
The Chinese coupled this with the "New China" movement where they abolished all the old China artifacts.

(End the Old World & Build a New World)​

They changed their national dress to trousers and shirts (instead of changshan / kimono/bathrobe styled ) to the "Mao Suit".
That is desirable for Pakistan, perhaps. In the sense we need to replace the old world of Hindu / India and gravitate more towards the Iranians/Turks/Afghans/ Arabs & our western allies US/UK/EU/Russia etc. Our model for westernization/ modernization might be Turkey under Ataturk etc.
