this will not last long when a new goverment takes over hopefully laber party things will be back to normal. besides i doubt anyone is gonna attack us any time soon anyway.

RAF is only getting rid of it's harrier jets which are old and outdated, BUT 160 Eurofighters, F-35s and tornadoes and enough for Britain.

The tiny amounts of tanks is not really a problem as Britain is an island and tanks can't swim

19 ships is really not enough, but 2 of these will be aircraft carriers with F-35s.

and 250 nukes are more than enough.

As far as defence goes, Britain is pretty well defended but with such a smaller armed forces, wars like Iraq and Afghanistan look unlikely.

Britain had 2 aircraft carriers but 1 is getting scrapped with immediate effect. The one remaining carrier will be used for helicopters (as the harriers are getting scrapped) until it is replaced by a new carrier.

Two new aircraft carrier will be built but one is going to get mothballed immediately after it's finished, leaving only 1 operational.

F-35 is going to be operated by the navy, and with only 1 future carrier likely to be in operation, the order is likely to get hugely reduced to around 40.

Good looking AC. Maybe we should mothball IAC-2 and go for one of these. Since they are still under construction (I think the work on 2nd hasn't started yet?) ask them to make some changes according to our needs. Replace the ski jump with EMALS or steam catapults.

Good Point from one poster New guy i think.

Who Explained that the British are veery safe miles away from middle east and Africa.

NATO is for defense purposes one nation and EUROPEANS essentially will never fight each other in the forseeible future.

THAT LEAVES TERRORISM.

Britain is geared to fighting wars thousands of miles as part of Nato or United States military.

For this the 2 new carriers C17 globe master transports and highly trained speacial forces and marines in very small nos are great.

MY QUESTION WHERE AND WHO ARE THESE OVERSEAS THREATS ie which countrys do they envisage fighting as part of coalition.

Iran, North Korea prehaps even China OR some one else ???

^overseas threats may also include threats to their overseas territories...Falkland islands, IOR territory( which many island nations like Maritiaus ,Secheylles lay claim to).......British troops have a high degree of interoperatibility with U.S forces so U.S carriers and Hercules transport/special mission aircraft of the U.S are quite a handful in fulfilling their transport needs.....as part of a coalition they are expected to support the U.S in any part of the world.....from places like Iran..the middle-east, to North Korea etc in the far east....even with its current capabilities...effective power projection of the Royal Navy into distant shores on its own is severely limited.......
