This is same everywhere in India one can't marry in same gotra, though in south India there is a traditions of where maternal uncles getting married to nieces. A south indian can clarify more about it.

Since some one is talking about 12 years old girls. I think its relevant to post this.

The Indian govt is planning a bill to allow 12 year old children to have non-penetrative sex!

It will be legal to have sex with 12 year olds, ofcourse non-penetrative sex, but it will help them loom and groom, in India ofcourse

i being a Haryanvi myself can educate u better.

here in Haryana, u cant merry a person if he happens to be of the same gotra(surname) as that of yours, or your mother, your foofi and your next door neighbors.
becoz if they have same surnames, then they automatically become ure sisters and brothers.
and its a taboo in our societies to even have such a felling about ure sisters n brothers.


this is a little harsh.
as i personally thing not marrying our first cousins is fine, but not allowed to merry even our next door neighbor's sister is harsh.

a brother and sister's relation is very pure.
if we start marrying our own sisters and cousins what else is left there.
today people marry their first cousins, tomorrow they would merry their real sisters, then their mothers.

In any case your knowledge about things are usually half baked .

Are you Hindu?? if yes then you should know that this practice of NOT marrying first cousins is among some Hindus in India and NOT practices by Muslims.

So why you are bringing your paranoia ? and one wonders why you are even terming a legal marriage with cousins as something bad when wife sharing in some parts of India is existing in your community.

Like many Non-Hindus, IMHO your knowledge about Hindism is also limited to only upto your Religious Text.
For beginners, Hinduism can be understood as a large umbrella under which there could be any nos. of Belief, Faith, Customs, Rituals can take root and have liberty to practice as long as they follow the basic principle of Hinduism. The current definition of Religion is not that sufficient that it can define Hinduism as Religion due to it;s Vastness. Hence, You can have US Vs THEM theory with Christianity, with other Religion but not with Hinduism.

Now your criticism about marriage with Tree, Animals in Hinduism can also be understood clearly that these are few customs followed at certain parts of India by local inhabitants & they have liberty to practice those customs under Hinduism.
