'Unexploded Second World War bomb' turns out to be huge courgette

A panicked pensioner in Germany called the police after discovering what he believed was an unexploded Second World War bomb in his garden, but when officers rushed to the scene they instead discovered a particularly large courgette.

In a statement, police in the southern town of Bretten did concede that "the object really did look very like a bomb" when they found it on Thursday.

The offending vegetable - which police believe was thrown over the fence into the 81-year-old's garden - measured in at a hefty 40cm (16in) and weighed a whopping 5kg (11lbs).

Unexploded wartime bombs are frequently found during construction work in Germany, often forcing police to evacuate tens of thousands of residents while they are defused.

That is not funny at all.... ww2 is long time passed but ww2 allied bombs and ammunition are still a HUGE problem ...

from 2000 to 2010 allone died 8 men from bomb disposal team in Germany trying to defuse ww2 bombs....

In north Germany state Schlieswieg Holstein they find today about 100.000 ww2 ammunition pices rande from pistol rounds to huge airbombs... at a single cable route construction they have found 30to of bombs and ammunition.
In Frankfurt am Main the next bigger city to my home they find several large ww2 bombs each year...
Last September they have found in Frankfrut a huge 1.8to english HC-4000 Block Buster bomb... filled with 1.4to explosives... they were forced to evacuade a 1.5km area around the bombe ... 70.000people had to leave their home for one day...

just to get a picture... in 2012 they had to controlled explode a 250kg US bomb in Munic because they could not defuse the bomb..

now imagine what 1.8to block buster would have done...
