ISLAMABAD - Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), on the special directives of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, has reduced its fares for Umra and some domestic sectors.
The prime minister had ordered the PIA to pass on the benefit to its passengers following the reduction in petroleum prices during the last three months.
For Umra, the passengers from the North (Punjab, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) will get a reduction of Rs 6,000 in airfare, i.e. from Rs 72,000 to Rs 66,000. The airfare for South (Sindh, Balochistan) has also been slashed from Rs 60,000 to Rs 54,000 with a reduction of Rs 6,000. The fares of domestic sectors including Multan, Faisalabad, Peshawar, Quetta and Dera Ghazi Khan have been reduced by Rs 2,000 each.

Umra, domestic fares down

PIA reduces Umra, domestic fares on PM's directive
 :pakistan:

Why should a Prime Minister interfere with setting of air fares? This is absolutely ridiculous. PIA should be able to set its fares according to the market and sector to maximize its returns.

PIA is federal entity and corrupt to the core on its own.

So we should leave it like that?

This goverment already have reduced PIA losses by 77% in last quarter. PIA have lost $2 billion in last 5 years, leave them on their own and they will loss another $3 billion in coming 5 years.

That is good progress. But it does not mean the PM should interfere in the setting of air fares.

there are times when their tickets (with sh!t aircrafts and service) are equivalent to that of emirates !!!!

so the educated majority would not opt for them resulting in losses !!!!!

that progress took place because of his interference..........just for a gentle reminder PPP also interfered alot

so someone needs to start wiping up the crap......it wont clean on its own :P

IMO it needed some interference, as now the airlines is in for new aircrafts and interior upgrades too, they are in need for some big money ...........

Fair point. If this is what it takes to get PIA back on its feet, then this is what should be done, even though I do not think it is correct.
