UK to train Karachi police

KARACHI: The British government has agreed to provide training to the Karachi police for their capacity building to improve law and order in the city, it emerged on Monday.

In this connection, the Sindh government has been asked to prepare a working paper with the specific mention of its requirements.

This was agreed during a meeting between Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah and a British delegation led by Under-Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Tobias Ellwood at CM House on Monday.

Perhaps also Police shouldn't be imported from Punjab or interior Sindh? Perhaps giving locals a chance to police their own communities may bear some fruit?

Sindh Police has minimal Punjabi representation and that too is mostly from the settler districts in Sanghar. Most of it is derived from interior Sindh though, that can be overcome if Karachi Police is raised as a separate force rather than as a part of Sindh Police..

You are probably, but in the 70s and 80s most senior police officers came from Punjab. I haven't been to Pakistan for a while so don't really know the composition of Karachi Police now.

At the moment, most officer cadre position are being filled by rankers who are doing a terrible job for the most part, though there are glaring exceptions like Chaudary Aslam and Khan Bahadur.
That is the most ideal solution but PPP would not allow it, hurts their Sindh card and also limits their access into the cash card of this nation.

tell me honestly how many educated karachiites would waste their future by joining the police force?
my grandfather was in the fia (karachi), and my father wanted to join the police, but he wasn't allowed since his parents wanted him to pursue higher education and get an office job.
