South East Asia is richer than South Asia thanks to per capita resources.
Pakistan cannot pay their fuel bill. Neither could India until 1990s.



There is enormous diversity among ASEAN states. Ignoring Singapore and Vietnam all of them have more arable land, more water than India, Pakistan or Bangladesh. In an agarian economy that is a huge plus. How hard is that to comprehend ?

So let’s start comparing it with US or Africa or GCC ? What stopping it? What’s so special about ASEAN, that whole threads topic is changed?

How a thread about India overtaking Uk gets changed into VS thread?

Might be some jealousy or insecurity? Might be you praying, please god change the word India to Indonesia or Vietnam or Singapore from this thread.

We are here comparing ASEAN with India. Our conversation started as you talk about those two entity. As now ASEAN GDP figure is higher than India GDP figure (both for Aggregate and Per-capita) with half of Indian population.

You tried to debunk my opinion as I said that it is false to say this century as Indian century by that Western analyst, he should look on ASEAN data before talking about that. Any way, it is my opinion, I dont say the ultimate truth is in my side, the future is the area that we still dont know...

We are not even part of RCEP, trade almost non existential between india and ASEAN. We are not even in same economic basket or groups.

Far better comparison would be GCC. So many Indian expatriates live there, but for some reasons you won’t do that.

ASEAN is ahead of India through out recent history. I never claimed otherwise
By aggregate GDP PPP India is ahead of ASEAN states. $11 trillion to $9.5 trillion.

Indos is well respected cordial member of this forum. I do not agree with him. I learn about Indonesia/Islam from his posts.
Indonesia is a great country. I enjoyed playing badminton with Indonesian buddies.

I am open to comparing X versus Y if it makes sense. I have a wide range of interests.

The topic is about India is ahead of British nominal GDP ( while in PPP basis India has already outpace Britain quite long)

The thread is just advancing further, no need to feel sensitive about it mate. My post about ASEAN vs India comparison is only a respond after one of Indian member shows a statement from Western research company showing this century is Indian century.

India would like some of the manufacturing jobs in ASEAN states. they is a lot to be compared and studied here. I presume it is a more fruitful endeavor than the piss poor comparisons with Pakistan and China

Chinese bots are clamouring to claim -See where we are and where you are. China was this and China was that 200 years back. And it is bigger then everyone as of yesterday. That’s great for you. Keep up the good work. India couldn’t do the same because we had issues.

India has a long way to go. Vast population is still facing extreme poverty.
Hell yes. We know that. That’s why effort is on to grow.

If we don’t become 3rd largest in a decade then so What?
There is an inequality in wealth distribution then that needs to be addressed. Government is trying to address that. Should we stop efforts to grow till that is sorted out?

No need for anyone to get into chest thumping either. We have huge inequality. Till no one dies of hunger, living standards are humane and people have healthcare - India needs to keep its head down and focus on growth. A growth that spreads wealth a little wider.

India's industry system was built long ago. But it doesn't have any competitive strength. This is the reason why India refused to join in RCEP. Indian government is corrupt, incompetent and short sighted. Indians are superstitious and inefficient. How can a country like this could possibly become a big economic power?

For economic power, quality is more important than quantity. S.Korea is a much bigger economy than India in this respect.

See below video. Indians cheered for their government robbing Chinese investments in India. So far Indians and their government don't have the mindset needed to become a real big economy power.

Sure India has its problems but you have to remember that the stagnation it experienced for many decades were also partly due to many anti business government policies which are being reversed.

Yes India has its oligarchs but it is finally boosting investment into infrastructure, industrial development etc. it is a massive country and it is inevitable it will play a huge role.
