UK ramping up efforts to support Pakistan’s economic development
ISLAMABAD - British Minister of State for International Development Desmond Swayne has said Britain is ramping up efforts to support economic development, more skills training, more financial inclusion, and more investment in small businesses in Pakistan.
In a statement issued at the conclusion of his three-day visit to Pakistan, Swayne welcomed focus on the big reforms in energy, privatisation, and reducing the public debt. These tax reforms are essential for the future prosperity of the country, according to the statement. He said Pakistan has taken a number of important steps for stability and growth of its economy.
During his visit, the British minister met Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and leaders of the business community. Their discussions focused on the prospects for faster economic growth, increasing the tax base and tackling poverty.
