Sri Lanka : Uganda seeks Sri Lankan military expertise for training Special Forces
Jan 28, Colombo: A visiting Ugandan defense delegation led by that country's Defense Minister has sought the expertise of the Sri Lankan military's special forces.
The Ugandan Minister of State for Defense, General (retd) Odongo Jeje has sought Sri Lanka military's cooperation to organize a training programme for Ugandan military when he called on Sri Lanka Army Commander Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake at the Army Headquarters on Tuesday (28).
General (Rtd) Odongo Jeje, and Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake have exchanged views on matters related to training and promotion and sharing of experiences between both organizations.
The Ugandan delegation showing a keen interest in the Army's Special Forces, has asked the Sri Lankan Army to organize a training programme for Ugandan servicemen since Sri Lankan Special Forces have become very popular among the Armed Forces of Uganda.
"We are very impressed with their skills and the training given to them in Sri Lanka. We would therefore like to have more interactive approaches with our Sri Lankan counterpart in the future," the visiting Ugandan Minister has said.
The Sri Lankan Commander has invited the Ugandan Army to share Sri Lanka�s battlefield experiences and learn from each other. He has also requested them to liaise closely with military organized events, such as the annual Defence Seminar, Exercise Cormorant Strike, Sniper Course, etc.
They have also discussed several other matters of mutual interest and bilateral importance to both the Ugandan Army and the Sri Lankan Army.
The Ugandan Minister has also called on the Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, Vice Admiral Jayanath Colombage at the Naval Headquarters in Colombo Tuesday.
The visitor was accorded a Token Guard of Honour on arrival and warmly received by the Navy Commander.
General Jeje accompanied by his six-member delegation had held discussions on a range of topics which were of mutual interests and bilateral importance.
