UAE Navy takes delivery of 4th Class Baynunah Corvette, Mazyed | WAM

ABU DHABI, 10th May 2015 (WAM) --- Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB) has handed over the 4th Class Baynunah Corvette, Mazyed, to the UAE Navy in a ceremony attended by Major General Ibrahim Salim Mohammad Al Musharrakh, Commander of the UAE Naval Forces, Humaid Al Shemmari, ADSB Chairman, and senior military officers and senior civilian officials.

In a speech at the handover ceremony, Khalid Al Mazrouie, CEO of ADSB, noted that the Baynunah class is one of biggest warship-building projects in the region where corvettes have state-of-the-art technology and equipment for surveillance, interception, coast guard patrolling, helicopter operations and other security missions.

He noted that the newest corvette is the fruit of cooperation between ADSB and its international partners. He said that the handover is an important step towards the company's self-reliance in making defence equipment.

ADSB now specialises in the construction, repair and refit of naval, military and commercial vessels and boasts an impressive portfolio of build and refit projects.

Al Mazrouie also noted that ADSB, a public joint stock company owned by Abu Dhabi Government, Mubadala, supports the Gulf Cooperation Council's military and commercial marine organisations and operators.

A strategic partner of the UAE Armed Forces leveraging its highly strategic, centralised location in the Arabian Gulf region, ADSB is rapidly consolidating its position as the leading ship builder and support contractor for all naval, military and commercial operators in the GCC.

On his part, Commander of the Second Naval Group, said, "Highly-capable Mazyad will take part in defending our coasts and territorial waters."

The commander added that clear vision and sound planning are the two pillars of development and growth in terms of armament and training.

He noted that in the next stage, advanced naval unites, infrastructure and special training centres will be put in service.

The remarkable development of the UAE Naval Forces, he added, is the result of the insightful vision of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the follow-up of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
