UAE elected to IAEA Board again

The General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), on Thursday, unanimously re-elected the UAE to the Board of Governors membership for 2013-2015.
The Board of Governors, which consists of 35 members, is the most important decision-making body in the agency. During periodic meetings, the board discusses reports of the Director-General, and endorses recommendations and decisions relevant to the agency’s work programmes and budget. It also discusses competent reports on verification activities regarding the application of the safeguards system and non-proliferation of nuclear weapons.

The membership allows the UAE to play an active role in determining the policies and work of the agency in the fields of nuclear energy, nuclear security, nuclear safety and non-proliferation of nuclear weapons, in consistence with the public policy of the state.

The UAE had previously occupied a seat on the Board from 2010-2012.

Dude, countries such as UAE / Hong Kong, who haven't even crossed the basic threshold of nuclear sciences, shouldn't be members of such organizations. Their populations and their geographical sizes makes the whole notion moot.

Countries such as Saudia, Iraq, Iran being the members, that's another story all together.

I mean don't get me wrong, they have some of the most brilliant minds on the planet, who practically ran the US's nuclear program, however, they on their own never had the resources to do the research, and still don't. Don't tell me about Diamona etc etc, I know what it is, and what it has been unto for the past 30 years. Trust me, they don't have the ability to develop 100% of the "critical" tech by themselves, nor will they ever have. It's simply a problem of size and resources (not human resources)

My friend, mostly it's materials. Doesn't matter how much "funds" you have. Certain materials and equipment no one sells, no matter how rich you are.
