U.S. Military Sales to India and Pakistan

wouldnt it be better not to do anything for US?

I agreed with you. Better to do nothing for US and also dont buy US hardware just because (it will save you people your citizen your country respect).

I love American weapons big fan of American military hardware same like i am big ANTI of American govt and American Deals. Russia is far better much better and great friend atleast never harm her friends. US only make friend for just achieving of her goals. So Its better not to do anything for US!

Hi,
Well its called " Divide and rule policy" first the British adopted it and now the Americans, nothing new. But sadly people in both India and Pakistan are not wise enough to comprehend this, their hatred for one another is sufficient enough for Americans to take advantage of and on the other while securing financial gains through equipment sales lets kill two birds with one arrow by countering the Communist China through India, BTW its been 20 years now since the Cold War ended and what actually did USA gain from the collapse of USSR, Russia still has veto, more nukes, and can still stand tall in front of USA ( we all saw during us installation of ABM in Czech) and what is India going to gain by doing the same with China given the fact India doesn't enjoy the status which Russia did, i mean face it guys India is on the path to become a developed state but China already is... Not to mentioned it is an accepted super power. But the question is why can't Asian countries be united like EU and render any sinister plans of countries like USA useless, but hatred speaks louder than anything :azn:........we the poor asians:hang2:

It is the stupidest thing to claim that Pakistan is getting anything for free. Pakistanis want nothing but to end the trend of taking American military aid. Most of it is just operational costs for the war. The new gear can barely be used against India and is mostly for COIN operations. The handful of F-16s is no where near the defence requirements of Pakistan.

The new Generation of Pakistanis is increasingly inclined towards sending their orders to China or obtaining contracts of Transfer of Production Technology with the Chinese.

Indian government has been more inclined towards purchases, and they have the money to continue doing it for the next couple of decades. We on the other hand have already started using our own developed hardware in the Army, Navy and now even the Air Force.

The JF-17 trend would probably expand to the J-10, the J-10 to J-XX in the next decade or two.

Talking about the emergence of South Korea and Israel as modern industrialized states, George Friedman of Startfor singles out the value of the transfer by the US of F-16s as a catalyst for recipient countries' development of skills and technical know-how. Although he made no mention of Pakistan's development of the F16 maintenance and training infrastructure at Kamra PAC for its F16s in this context, I believe PAF's and PAC's experience with F-16s has contributed to the development of critical mass of advanced skills and technical sophistication in Pakistan, including the success of JF-17 program where Pakistan has contributed most of the avionics and software.

Having said that, I am glad Pakistan is using US military aid rather than borrowed funds or its taxpayers' money to buy weapons. Pakistan has much better uses for its money than splurge it on F-16s.

India, on the other hand, is borrowing heavily (its budget deficit is now 10% of GDP vs 5% for Pak) to fund its weapons purchases.

Pakistan's current account deficit of about 5% of GDP is being funded by the remittances from expats already.

Recently Pak government was criticized by Pak media for "a new feather in its CAP" for being a part of the UN's Continuous Appeal Process (CAP) to assure long-term funding of programs via NGOs in nations impacted by ongoing war and refugees. Pakistan qualifies for such funding in the North West region of the country where war has been raging between Pak military and the Talibs for at least a year.

Unlike Indian government, Pakistani government doesn't get in the way of others helping its needy citizens.

In spite of its most serious problems of hunger, poverty and malnutrition, Indian government recently banned the UNICEF import of energy food (RUTF) to help the most malnourished Indian children.

"Nothing should come behind our back. Nothing should be done in the name of emergency when we have not declared an emergency," Shreeranjan, the joint secretary of the Ministry of Women and Child Development told the Reuters news agency.

According to Unicef's State of the World's Children's report, India has the worst indicators of child malnutrition in South Asia: 48% of under fives in India are stunted, compared to 43% in Bangladesh and 37% in Pakistan.

Meanwhile 30% of babies in India are born underweight, compared to 22% in Bangladesh and 19% in Pakistan. Unicef calculates that 40% of all underweight babies in the world are Indian.

Having said that, I am glad Pakistan is using US military aid rather than borrowed funds or its taxpayers' money to buy weapons. Pakistan has much better uses for its money than splurge it on F-16s.

Yes and it also increases it budget to 130 billion!!!!
Also,

"The Pakistan government last month allocated an additional Rs35 billion for the 2009-10 defence budget due to expenses on anti-militancy operations and the need to acquire modern equipment to counter a perceived threat from India."

And then you say "unlike Indian government, Pakistani government doesn't get in the way of others helping its needy citizens."

Whereas The truth is:
"The six months PHRP 2010, (February-July) makes Pakistan the second highest recipient of aid after Sudan, which is provided $1878m annually."

Can you still justify the F16 purchase, The awacs purchase, the need for new avionics and weapons purchase ???

Practice what you preach!!!!!!!!!

India, on the other hand, is borrowing heavily (its budget deficit is now 10% of GDP vs 5% for Pak) to fund its weapons purchases.

Again, generating statements and comparing oranges and appleas makes you look stupid!!!
Please prove that budget deficit is because of India's weapon's purchase.
Please prove budget deficits have nothing to do with global economic downturn but its only because of weapon's purchase
Prove the following stimulus packages had nothing to do with the budget deficit :

* Pay & Pension Revision: Rs. 28,505 Crores ($5.85 Billion)
* Oil Subsidy (Oil Bonds): Rs. 65,942 Crores ($13.54 Billion)
* Fertilizer Subsidy (incl Bonds): Rs. 64,866 Crores ($13.32 Billion)
* Food Subsidy: Rs. 11471 Crores ($2.36 Billion)
* NREGA: Rs. 25,000 Crores ($5.13 Billion)
* Farmer’s Debt Relief: Rs. 15,000 Crores($3.08 Billion)
* Transfer to States: Rs. 12,741 Crores ($2.61 Billion)

And please don't get me started on Pakistan's 5% and comparing it to India's 10%, like that is something to be proud of , its is very clear your knowledge on economics is very poor!!!!

actually even in other areas, you are yet to prove to me

How spending less than 3% GDP on defense will improve India's poverty, when what it is already doing is not improving the situation much!
