The ground situation must have deteriorated terribly in a short span to have this authorized. The Afg army must be close to being routed in a very strategic area.

Kandahar was close to collapse, thats when the airstrikes happened. Collapse of kandahar would hsve been a seismic event.

There was a frontal assult by 150 strong taliban unit and afghan forces withdrew and were squeezed into the center which was neutralized by americans.

It is moving towards a Saigon situation and most of it has to do with the absolute uselessness of the Afghan Army. Allies from hell these Afghans are.

none of the above. most probably gunship helicopters since the u.s. still has some airstrips in afghanistan; if the air strikes even took place. this is fast starting to sound like a bluffart on part of the u.s. since nothing concrete has been produced.

Taliban are loosing momentum, they need to act smart and suffocate the cities rather than do frontal assults when enemy enjoys air cover. Taliban is loosing manpower and this is making them vulnerable to kabul, it might become hard for them to retain territory.
We will know alot more by following how events unfold in herat especially.
