Sea patrol arrest four Vietnamese vessels for illegal fishing

The Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Ministry (KKP) arrested four Vietnamese vessels and 37 people allegedly engaged in illegal fishing in Natuna waters, on Tuesday.

It was alleged that three vessels were illegally fishing in the waters by using trawls, which are prohibited under Law No.31/2004 on fisheries.

Head of maritime and fishery resources surveillance working unit Batam chapter Akhmadon said that the crew of another vessel that had been apprehended was illegally fishing in Natuna waters by diving into the waters.

After a thorough examination, it was discovered that the vessel’s name had been changed into an Indonesian name to deceive sea patrols.

“The crew of KM Citra Mandiri, a Vietnamese-flagged vessel, stole particular types of fish by diving into the waters using compressors,” said Akhmadon.

During January-April, 15 foreign flagged-vessels from Malaysia and Vietnam have been arrested in Riau Islands for allegedly illegal fishing. (ebf)

Really? not this one case, whereas VN marine police recently arrested Indonesia/Myanmar pirates and rescued Malaysian nationals.
