U.S. F-22 stealth fighter pilot taunted Iranian F-4 Phantom combat planes

I imagine a dedicated ISR platform like a drone would have better intel collection payload compared to a manned platform with just a recce pod.

1. What is the advantage of a drone, if it is supposed to be escorted by F22?
A drone have a specific mission and designed a certain way to meet that mission. Same for a jet fighter or an airliner. So the implication here is that somehow an F-22 and its pilot is far less valuable than the drone is simply ridiculous.

If the drone is being used as a provocative measure, then the word 'escort' is being misused. The drone is being used as bait to entice a response. It may have a parallel mission of intelligence gathering and it make eminent sense to do so. Fly an intelligence gathering mission as normally as possible and see what comes.

For the F-22s, they are not there to protect the drone, although they could do so if they wanted since it is a US asset. But rather, they are there to have a human assessment of a potential adversary's response.

2. How can a ground radar station systems detect a drone but miss F22? I assume most drones are more stealthy compared to F22.
Not always.

Yes, smaller sizes do have smaller radar profiles. But when the larger body was specifically designed to mimic the radar profile of much smaller bodies, the drone will be detected long before the F-22. Further, we do not know what the flight profiles were. The -22s could have been at a lower altitude looking up.

When presented with targets, multiple or singular, the tendency of radar operators is to focus in on the most prominent target. It is natural because the most prominent tends to be the nearest, which tends to be the most threatening. So if the -22s were highly ambiguous targets due to their flight profiles, the drone will garner the most attention.

All of this is based upon the assumption that this story is true, of course.

This is how shortsighted and limited thinking you really are.

Back in the Cold War, we developed 'provocative' flight profiles. Do you know what 'provocative' mean? It can mean anything from passive SIGINT to actually induce physical response by the Soviets such as them sending up interceptors, while we observe and record their behaviors and response time. You think the Soviets do not do the same to US? How about those Bear bombers off the Alaskan coasts? Today, we do the same except most of our focus is in Asia, as in China.

So what make you think we did not use drones to provoke a physical response from the Iranian military?

Yeah...You go right on believing we are 'stupid'. Funny how you think that when your Pakistan cannot do even 1/10th of what we can do, have done, and have in the works.

I thought you were a Vietnamese reject, aren't you? What is your achievement, other then to defect to another country?

And I pity the fools, if any, in the Iranian military when they believe they 'hacked' those things.

You should actually pity the fools who believe that a few recently trained pilots hijacked passenger planes and struck the WTC towers!

Buddy, if only you know how much we violate Iranian airspace, your head will explode. We went into Pakistan to take out Osama bin Laden. You think we are scared of an air force that relies on Photochopped images to make itself feel good?

You 'came' into Pakistan??? That is not only highly unlikely, it is complete BS! You were invited, most probably escorted inside and then escorted out of Pakistan by PakMil. Our children will find out the truth then the secrecy time bound is lifted in 30-50 years of what actually happened.

What do you mean by wining?? I think US was never there in Afghanistan to win any land mass. They achieved its main objective and leaving behind an Afghan army that is enough for terrorist. About US economy, its on revival path. US is still the global money machine. Overtaking US economy is just a day dream, a hoax created by media and not possible in near future for ANY COUNTRY till dollar is a global currency.

You mean, the goal was to attempt to wrest control of Afghanistan from Talibaan, only to surrender 70% of it back within months and finally pleading with the Talibaan to come and negotiate the surrender....I mean withdrawal of US forces?

No, I mean daily bombing those Taliban thugs to pieces, even in Pakistan including their supporters called PA.

So that was their goal? To spend like a trillion+ dollars in Afghan war, drop bombs on Talibaan and PA, and then to retreat after begging for negotiations??

Hmm......even for an Indian, you are pretty dumb.

technically not possible..looks like a fanboy stuff..even Stealthy fighters like F-22 can be detected from 30 km back by most of the radars..how come they went under the wing of the iranian aircrafts without knowing??no without disabling their radar(as well as their eyes) completely..

That's why it is called Stealth fighter (Billion Dollars baby)..........No doubt F-22 is the most superior Aircraft in the world.......If radars can detect that fighter......then nobody will call them Stealth.

Aahh...No...YOU go home and figure it out.

In air combat, to 'engage' someone is to actively knowing he is there, whether he is in your sight or not, and contest his positions.

If this story is true, what are the odds of the Iranian pilots knowing the Raptors were in the area? About as much as winning the Powerball lottery in the US, or you scoring a date with Kate Upton. Must have been unnerving for the Iranians. One moment thinking you are masters of the sky, the next moment seeing a couple of jets your country will never be able to produce and hearing their pilots telling you to phvck off. The Iranian pilots probably shat in their flight suits from fright.

Great rant from 1 year baby ....BRAVO Gambit Brovo Next time try not throw your toys out of your pram. :)

looks like, pull from there wing and says take a break " i have to do poo " will be right back

Personally, I find this ridiculously hard to believe. It's like something out of top gun.

Can you change your profile pic? It's super offensive.

The only plane with radar that can detect an F22 at 30 km is a AWAC plane with a much more powerful radar then Iranian planes have. If the F22 approached from any direction other then the front of the F4 there is no chance the radar would detect the F22. In red flag exercises there been pilots quoted as saying they could not detect f22s on their radar when they could see them. F/A-22 (RCS < or = 0.0002~0.0005 m2)

Seems like a concocted story to massage the ego of a demoralized US military just defeated in Afghanistan ... in the longest US misadventure ever in history.
