US, Brazil sign agreement enabling military sales

08/03/2020

Miami (AFP)

Brazil's President Jair Bolsonaro on Sunday visited the US Southern Command, where he signed a defense agreement with the United States enabling joint development of military capabilities, officials said.

The agreement, which was also signed by Admiral Craig Faller, the head of the Miami-based command, aims to clear the way for future joint projects "to improve or supply new military capabilities," a Brazilian defense ministry statement said.

It came a day after Donald Trump hosted Bolsonaro, a right-wing populist who identifies politically with Trump, at a dinner at Mar-a-Lago, the US president's Palm Beach, Florida resort.

Afterward, the two discussed the crisis in Venezuela and reiterated their support for opposition leader Juan Guaido, whom they recognize as that country's acting president.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro on Friday accused the two of plotting a conflict in Venezuela to justify a military intervention.

The US-Brazilian defense agreement "reduces bureaucratic processes" in the sale of military goods in their respective countries, the Brazilian statement said.

It said it also opens the US market to military products from Brazil, and facilitates sales to NATO member countries by the South American country.

Brazil is not a member of NATO, but the United States has designated it a major non-NATO ally.

In March 2019, the two countries signed a technology safeguards agreement enabling US space launches from Brazil's Alcantara Launch Center.

@Jyotish Dude, you have opened about six different threads today just copy-pasting from everything under the Sun.....stop turning this forum into a village gossip site with irrelevant news and subjects.

. . .
And how many members are interested in such snippets.

The members that are from the U.S., Brazil and others that are interested in the military politics of the American continent.

Also, if I cannot post news on the countries of the American continent, why does PDF even have a subsection of it?

I would then suggest that you post a new thread in the 'Suggestions & Discussions' section asking the management to remove the 'Americas' subsection.

No i would request you to not spam the forum with news of every minor incident that happens in every corner.
Members debating, commenting on a thread gives a good idea of what's popular and what's irrelevant. Thanks.

Members debating, commenting on a thread gives a good idea of what's popular and what's irrelevant. Thanks.

But how will you know if the content of the thread is 'popular' or 'relevant', based on the comments of the members, if it is not posted at all?
In order to know the response of the members it first needs to be posted.

For example, the thread of '50 Pakistani Zainebiyoun Brigade fighters killed in Turkish strikes in Syria'.

https://defence.pk/pdf/threads/50-p...rs-killed-in-turkish-strikes-in-syria.655930/

This thread has more than 6000 views and more than 150 replies (of which two are from you).
I would say that it is pretty popular and relevant.

Should I (or any other member) not have posted this thread then?
Then you would not have found out about this.

Besides, have you seen what other members post on this site (outside of the 'Members' subsection) ?
Most of the threads I post are at least relevant to the strategic and political affairs of countries.
Other members post a lot less relevant threads, even in this section.

I will give you a few examples, from the first page of this section.

1. How Costco is Handling Panicked Coronavirus Shoppers
https://defence.pk/pdf/threads/how-costco-is-handling-panicked-coronavirus-shoppers.656131/

Very relevant to the strategic affairs of the country 'Costco'.

2. Canada faces a domestic violence crisis
https://defence.pk/pdf/threads/canada-faces-a-domestic-violence-crisis.656054/

Of course domestic violence topics belong on a defence forum.
The more we know about women that are being abused in Canada, the more we can find out about their weapons industry...

So, tell me, do you also annoy other members and tell them what they should or should not post?

Yes, you posted a thread which concerns the majority community of PDF.....and no i don't tell anyone what to post because most members here contribute rather than build up their post count.....but remember we can all access global newspaper to read minor news that have no substance.

Majority community...

I know that this is Pakistani Defence Forum, but in order to keep this forum interesting and international, you cannot post only threads that have to do with Pakistan.
Or else it will become boring and you will lose non-Pakistani members.

You say that you can all access global newspapers to read minor news, but I do not think that you do.
Besides this news is not minor, since it implies a strengthening of relations between U.S. and Brazil, which is not a NATO member. Also, this has to do with the strategic affairs of the U.S. and Brazil and therefore belongs in the 'Americas' section.

I post a lot of threads but they are different threads regarding different countries.
This keeps it interesting, makes PDF more international and makes it possible for other members to follow what is happening in other countries.

You on the other hand might not post many threads, but you do reply a lot.
And when you do, the threads you reply to mostly concern Pakistan and India, and that is it.
So, maybe you should read the threads I post since many of them are not about Pakistan or India.
This might make you less narrow minded and will broaden your horizon.

Yes i reply to threads which i find interesting and on which i have some knowledge....unlike you who randomnly just posts everything that crosses your eyes....and rather than wasting bandwidth with irrelevant subjects and advising me.....perhaps you should make an effort to comment and debate on somed threads instead of just acting like a rubber stamp.

I do not post randomly. I post threads of which I think have relevance to a certain (sub)section on PDF. Just like this thread.

and rather than wasting bandwidth with irrelevant subjects and advising me.....

You are the one who is currently wasting bandwidth advising annoying me.

perhaps you should make an effort to comment and debate on somed threads

I already started to comment on threads.
And I will do so more in the future.

instead of just acting like a rubber stamp.

Will you then stop being narrow minded?
