U.S. Agencies Block Technology Exports for Supercomputer in China

Umm.. no.

The US distance from China is far greater than China's distance from India in ICT industry.

Also, unlike you, we do not have such an antagonistic relationship with the west. We have access to their technology.

Chinese foundries are 1-2 generations behind the US. India does not have a single commercial foundry.

China at least has a domestic search engine. India does not have a single one.

The difference between 1 and 10 is larger than the difference between 10 and 20, since growth is percentage-wise every year, not additive. If you grow at 5% a year, it takes only 15 years to grow to 20, but 58 years to grow to 10 from 1.

China is already self sufficient in almost everything.

Lenovo makes PCs.

Inspur makes servers.

Xiaomi, Huawei, Lenovo and numerous other companies make smartphones and tablets.

China Unicom and China Telecom are by far the largest broadband providers in the world.

Huawei is the Chinese Cisco.

Baidu is the Chinese Google.

Alibaba handles more sales than Amazon and eBay combined.

The Tianhe-2 has been the world's fastest supercomputer since 2013.

The only thing missing is a Chinese Intel...

Not a big deal. China has closed the gap in everything else. China will close the gap in microprocessors.

Lenovo doesn't make most of the core parts of the PC.

Inspur still makes low to medium end servers.

Baidu is not remotely comparable to Google.

Tianhe 2 is based on Intel Xeon and Phi accelerators.

Don't get me wrong. China is indeed ahead of India. Just that there is significant gap between China and Global ICT and Electronic Industry.

How?

Memory Chips - Samsung, SK Hynix, Nanya etc.

Foundries - atleast 2 generations behind the latest

Display Panels- Even Xiaomi and other OEMs in China use display panels of Sharp and Samsung.

Fabless IC vendors-

Semiconductor Manufacturing Machinery - US leads

Software- China doesn't have any answer to Google or Microsoft. Remember China hasn't been able to produce any successful OS. The only ones it has produced use a lot of open source code and outside help.

And of course - Chinese Intel is no where near.

India does have some foundries, which are 1 generation behind China's. But granted that in IC design and fabrication India is nowhere near China.

India is an open market. We use Google. We don't need to have a domestic one. Your Baidu developed successfully with the help of a closed market.

India is better at Softwares than China. Our IT industry service exports are around 60 billion dollars. We dominate the low-medium end market.

So India is fabricating at 45 nm? Show me some 45 nm chips fabricated in India? You can't.

You are not better at software because you do not have a better software product, which is what most people consider "software". You are better at being code coolies for the white man. Real software power is things like control software for MRI machines or spacecraft, which you don't have. Funny thing is, Chinese software industry is still bigger than India's.

To be honest India is nowhere near China in IT industry and even in softwares. But yes you are right the U.S is light years of China and every other country in these fields, no other country comes near bar few U.S allies. China still has a long way to go compared to even its east Asian peers like Japan and South Korea forget about the U.S.:usflag:

India don't have its own brands because it's incapable of it, so it HAS to rely on the West. That dependence on the West will NEVER change as Indians are not as smart as Chinese. It's that simple!

While China will have its alternatives to Western tech firms, India will continue its dependence on the West.

As for India catching China this century?
Dream on :coffee:

Thank you Captain Obvious.

South Korea's dominance in memory chips is well known.

Just like Taiwan's (TSMC and UMC) dominance in semiconductor foundry.

However, neither South Korea nor Taiwan are going to put sanctions on China. Both 'countries' are too small and non-confrontational to want to start anything. In 2012, China consumed 33% of the world’s integrated circuits. China is the largest trading partner for both. There's plenty of economic incentive to keep the status quo in place. Furthermore, we all live in the same neighborhood. Nobody wants to start a trade war.

The main problem are American firms such as Intel. And supercomputers are not the only problem here. Intel currently has around 98% market share in servers. This is why the sooner we see a 'Chinese Intel' the better. Once we have that, East Asia will control the entire supply chain.

All of you, should Google "ASML". And yes, Japan & USA is head of China in ICT. As for Korea, I don't think so.
And search "SMEE";

I will share more info "太高兴了:中国很快就能彻底生产自己的cpu和高级数码相机了(转载)_国际观察_天涯论坛".

If you are chinese, it will be much easier for you to understand:-).

And you should also see Applied Materials, and Lam Research, which are better than ASML at equipment.

Rather, it was the Mao era civil war and class struggle (anti-intellectual movement) that drove all native Chinese talent out of the country to Taiwan and West. These people at that time were the cream of Chinese society at that time. These are the very same people who founded the biggest companies in ICT Industry:

TSMC: Morris Chang (By far the BIGGEST foundry in the world)

Lam Research Foundation: David Lam (A leading semiconductor machinery maker)

Nvidia: Jenhsun Huang ( One of the best in GPU, Accelerator, and HPC)

Marvell: (A fabless company, by Weili Dao and Sehat Suharjato (Indonesian Chinese who had to change his name)

Very good news from 3 years ago
High precision optical instruments and lens are what we are striving to make a breakthrough
Looking forward to the productions of our high quality optical instruments like cameras, video cams, microscopes. telescopes, satellite surveillance, ...
Keep goining China!

Good move by the US.

Core technologies must be eventually "domesticated."

The Chinese government on Wednesday approved the construction of pilot nuclear power units using the Hualong One technology, a domestically-developed third generation reactor design.

The approval is in line with global energy trends and will help optimize the country's energy structure and build a diversified clean energy system, the statement said.

don't forget AMEC in shanghai. the company founded by a bunch of long time overseas chinese researchers from applied materials and lam research. they have smic, tsmc, umc as their customers.
